Site widget not showing — Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting guide for when Asklayer's on-site widget survey won't show: script setup, publishing, and targeting.

If your Asklayer site widget survey isn't appearing on your site, follow the steps below to identify and resolve the cause.

Check these first

- The install script has been added to your site (or, on Shopify, the Asklayer app embed block is turned on)

- The survey is published (not still sitting in draft)

- You haven't already completed the survey once in this browser

- Your page and device targeting settings match the page you're testing on

Identify the cause

  1. The script isn't installed

If you're using Shopify, follow the steps in How to install Asklayer on Shopify (widget / popup mode) to add the script. If you're installing directly via Google Tag Manager, use the install instructions found under the profile menu in the dashboard.

  2. The survey isn't published

Open the survey editor, go to step 4, and confirm the survey is published. It won't display while still in draft mode.

  3. You've already completed the survey once

By default, a survey is shown only once per user. Once you've completed it as a test, it won't show again in the same browser. To see it again, use Chrome's Incognito mode or Safari's Private mode. You can change this behavior under Delivery > Site widget > Widget recurrence.

  4. Targeting doesn't match

Under Delivery > Site widget, check which pages and which users the survey is set to display for, and confirm this matches the page you're testing on.

If this still doesn't resolve it
