Where to upload them
Two entry points, same upload box:
Brands → Brand guidelines → Edit → Brand fonts → Upload custom font. This is the one to use. Scroll the brand guidelines panel and you'll find Brand colors first, Brand fonts directly beneath it, and Communication below that. Fonts live at brand level, so setting them here means everything you generate for that brand picks them up.
Ad brief → Visual identity → Upload custom font. For when you want a one-off face on a specific ad rather than changing the brand.
What to have ready
You need the actual font file — a .ttf, .otf, .woff or .woff2. This is the bit that catches people out, so let us say it plainly: Atria can't fetch a font by name. Writing "Söhne" into your brand guidelines does nothing on its own — the file has to be uploaded. If you haven't got them to hand, they'll be in your brand kit or with whoever built your identity.
Two more things before you drag anything in:
Upload the whole family, not just one weight. Regular, Bold, Italic — whatever your brand system genuinely uses. Atria splits a family into its variants and stores each one separately, so a headline can be Bold while the body copy is Regular. Upload only Regular and everything comes out Regular.
Latin only, for now. The font has to cover A–Z, a–z and 0–9, and its primary script must be Latin. Non-Latin fonts are rejected at upload with the reason shown on the row. If you need multilingual coverage, do tell us — it's genuinely useful for us to know who's asking.
You'll probably hit the two-font limit
Worth knowing before you plan around it: your font library isn't capped — upload as many families and weights as you like. What's capped is how many of them a generation can actually use. Brand fonts gives you exactly two rows, and they aren't free slots — they're named roles:
Headline and Body. Each row carries two dropdowns, one for the font family and one for the weight, so a brand ends up with one family and one weight per role — Helvetica Neue Bold for headlines and Helvetica Neue Regular for body, say. There's no third row and no control for adding one.
That weight dropdown is the real reason we keep nagging you to upload the whole family.
The weight has to be sitting in your library before it will appear in the list — upload Regular only and Bold simply isn't there to choose, however much you'd like it to be.
The Ad brief → Visual identity override lets you swap what sits in each of those two roles for a single generation — so it changes which two, not how many.
Here's our recommendation: give the two roles to the faces that cover the most surface area, which is nearly always your headline face and your body face. The small-print secondary is the one to drop. It's the least visible when it's wrong, and it's the easiest to fix afterwards in Magic Layer, where you can set the font on an individual text element without regenerating anything.
While you're in there
Fonts are one field of a much bigger picture — Setting up your Brand World covers the rest.
And if you'd like us to sit with you while you get your family uploaded and check that the first generation actually comes out right, just shout. Happy to.
