Monitor the status of points and bill points based on notification thresholds that you define.

👍 This article will help you:

  • Configure an appropriate offline threshold or flatline threshold for a point

  • Receive email notifications when a point status has changed

  • Find integration-specific troubleshooting resources

To access Notifications, select the Notifications bell icon at the top of any page.

Notifications table

The main Notifications page displays a table of all notifications generated for each of your points and bill points. More recent notifications display at the top of the table. Use the Filter to narrow your selection of notification types to view.

Point status

A point or bill point's status is determined by the presence of data flow, based on its offline threshold. If a point or bill point does not receive data for a period of time that exceeds the offline threshold, then its status will change to 'Offline' or 'Outdated', respectively.

To view the status of all points or bill points, go to Points or Bills on the left side menu.

Status

Description

Online

The point is actively receiving data.

Offline

The point has not received data for a period of time longer than the offline threshold.

Flatlined

The point has been receiving a repeating value for a period of time longer than the flatline threshold.

Current

The bill point is actively receiving data.

Outdated

The bill point has not received data for a period of time longer than the offline threshold.

Historical

The point or bill point is not expected to receive any new incoming readings.

Offline threshold

A point or bill point's offline threshold is the amount of time that needs to elapse without data flow before its status is changed to 'Offline' or 'Outdated', respectively.

Recommended offline threshold settings are based on the expected frequency of data for each integration and data type.

There are two ways to set an offline threshold:

  • To set the offline threshold for individual points or bill points, go to the Point Profile or Bill Point Profile.

  • To set the offline threshold for many points or bill points at once, go to Points or Bills on the left side menu. Select one or more points or bill points using the checkboxes on the left side of the table. Then, go to Actions > Set offline threshold.

Offline threshold

Description

Enabled

The point's status will be 'Online' until it does not receive data for a period of time longer than the offline threshold. Then, it will become 'Offline'.

The bill point's status will be 'Current' until it does not receive data for a period of time longer than the offline threshold. Then, it will become 'Outdated'.

Disabled

The point's status will be 'Online', or the bill point's status will be 'Current', regardless of data flow.

Historical

The point or bill point's status will be 'Historical'. Historical is used to indicate that the point or bill point is not expected to receive any new incoming readings.

📘 Example

If you set an offline threshold of 7 days, the point's status will be 'Online' until it does not receive data for 7 days, after which it will change to 'Offline'. Similarly, the bill point's status will be 'Current' until it does not receive data for 7 days, after which it will change to 'Outdated'.

Flatline threshold

A point's flatline threshold is the amount of time that needs to elapse while receiving a repeating value before its status is changed to 'Flatlined'. Flatlines will often indicate issues with a meter or integration, and may represent inaccurate readings.

Flatlines typically occur when the connection between a point and gateway/building automation system is broken for any reason. The point will not appear to be offline because Atrius is receiving values from the gateway, but those values are not incrementing. If the point totalizer fails to increment for longer than the duration specified for the flatline threshold, Atrius can alert you and begin deleting further incoming readings in order to protect the data set from inaccurate '0' readings.

🚧 Use with caution

It is recommended that you enable flatline threshold filtering only on meters or devices that are guaranteed to increment (e.g., main electricity meters).

Email notifications

Email notifications can be enabled or disabled in the User Profile. If enabled, the user will receive an email for any point or bill point status changes across the organization, for the buildings to which they have been granted access.

Field

Description

Uptime notifications

Informs you if a point is offline or flatlined, or if a bill point is outdated. It also informs you if a point or bill point has recovered and is back online.

Weekly uptime notifications summary

Informs you of all point and bill point status changes for the week. The email is sent every Monday at 6:00 pm PT.

Point and bill point alerts

Informs you of alert conditions to which you have subscribed. Learn more about setting up alerts

Troubleshooting

Problem

Solution

I am receiving too many notification emails.

Verify that your offline thresholds have been configured correctly. Extend the offline threshold so that more time needs to elapse before a point goes offline.

I am not receiving any notification emails.

Verify that your offline thresholds have been configured correctly and email notifications are enabled in your User Profile.

If notifications have been generated in Atrius but you are still not receiving emails, please contact Customer Support.

My points have become unexpectedly 'Offline', or my bill points have become unexpectedly 'Outdated'.
