Product Images Video
Uploading Product Images
At the top of the Image page, opt to browse for assets or drag-and-drop them in directly.
You can also upload or update using the Adobe Plug-In.
Acceptable file formats are AI, PSD, JPG, PDF, and PNG. TIFF files are not accepted.
PDF files may also be subject to compression/lower resolution after uploading.
New uploads display as thumbnails in the Uncategorized Image section by default
Images are captioned with the original file name by default; click the file name text to edit it
To maximize the image size output on your Tech Packs, we recommend cropping tightly around the image with as little extra white space as possible.
Managing Product Images
All the Image Sections you configure in your Admin panel are available for organizing your various images (see Tech Pack Sections for more details)
By default, there is also an Uncategorized Section, and a dedicated Section for each Colorway you’ve assigned to the Product
Clicking the Section name within the left-hand navigation bar brings you quickly to that Section
Hovering over an Image Thumbnail reveals multiple options:
Clicking the Star Icon sets your Default Image - the Default Image appears as the thumbnail throughout the app, on Product-level Line Sheets and as the Cover Page image on your Tech Packs
Clicking the Edit button opens the Image Annotator
Clicking the 3-dot Overflow Icon opens the Overflow Menu with several additional options
Clicking the Checkbox selects the Image, revealing the Bulk Actions toolbar at top of page, with several other options
Organize your Images by assigning them to the appropriate Section via one of the following actions:
Drag-and-drop the thumbnail into the target section
Click the target section via the Assign Section dropdown in the Overflow Menu
Select the Image checkbox and then click the target section via the Assign Section dropdown in the Bulk Actions toolbar at top of page
Note the first image you assign to each Product Colorway serves as the lede image in Colorway-level Line Sheet Reports (see more on Line Sheet Reports here)
Set Images to inactive via the 3-dot Overflow Menu or the Bulk Actions Toolbar
Inactive images don’t appear on Tech Packs, but can be restored at any time from within the Inactive Image Section that can be accessed via the dropdown at the top of the images area.
Duplicate, Download or view the Source Image Information via the 3-dot Overflow Menu
Duplicated Images include Annotations
In the source file window that appears you have options to replace the image, download the source file, delete, and view version history for any changes made to your image within backbone or via our illustrator plugin.
How to use the Adobe Plug-In
Navigate to exchange.adobe.com and click on Creative Cloud
Using the search bar in the center of the page, search for Backbone
Click the icon listed as Backbone PLM for Adobe Illustrator and follow the prompts to install the extension.
Be sure to quit adobe illustrator before doing this or you will be prompted to do so anyway.
Once installed, open Adobe Illustrator and navigate to the WINDOW tab and scroll down to EXTENSIONS
Enter your username and password
You should see an illustrator window that lists all your products and components through two tabs at the top. You can use the search bar to search for a product/component and then click on the one you want to add to or update.
7. Once you click on the product/component you want, you should see a new screen that allows you to add this file to the product/component from Illustrator directly into Backbone without leaving your workspace. Click the Add This File button to achieve this action.
8. You should now see a hover in the middle of your illustrator workspace that allows you to rename your artboards (optional) and upload the artboards. When ready, click the Upload button and wait for the file to load and process. It will prompt you with an Upload Finished screen and you can then click the Finish button.
9. You will notice you have a new set of artboards that appear in the product window above the prior set if they represent a new set of files. Two icons appear just below the name, date, time and user. These icons are the number of artboards in this set of files, and the number of versions for that set of files. Clicking on either icon will bring you to the same screen (shown in Step 10).
10. When you click on an icon for artboards or versions, you get a window that shows the artboards, the last update, the ability to open/update, and all of the historical versions for this set of artboards. By simply clicking on any version and its 3 dot ellipse, you can open or name these versions. If you choose open, it will ask you where to save the version so you can open and access. You also have the ability at the top to update this file in case you need to make changes you want reflected in Backbone.
11. If you choose to update the file, you will be prompted with a hover that allows you to choose an Action and Image To Replace for each artboard in your file. This is optional for only those artboards you wish to update and is not required for each artboard if no changes are being made. You will be able to see the existing Backbone Image along with the Updated Artboard for each. On the right, you will see two sections called Pending and Trash. Pending is an area that allows you to move artboard images around. For example, if the desire was to move Artboard Test B to Artboard Test A then Artboard Test A can be dragged to pending and Artboard Test B can be moved into the Artboard Test A empty slot. You also have the ability to delete existing BB files from this section, and in fact, if you want to delete BB artboards connected to Illustrator via the extension, they MUST be deleted in this manner.
12. Navigate to Backbone Images Section of the product in question to see either the addition or update
