Why do my calls beep and disconnect immediately in the Barti app?

If calls connect but immediately beep and drop, your browser is most likely blocking microphone access. Grant microphone permission in Chrome or Edge, confirm the correct microphone is selected in Barti, and make sure Allow incoming calls is toggled on.

Who this is for: Any Barti user making or receiving calls through the Barti app in a browser.

Before you start, you'll need:

  • A Barti account with VoIP enabled

  • Access to your browser's site settings

Steps

1. Grant microphone permission in your browser

This issue will not appear as an error in Twilio logs — the call connects, then silently fails because the browser hasn't given the app microphone access.

Google Chrome:

  1. Navigate to the Barti app in Chrome.

  2. Click the sliders icon to the left of the address bar.

  3. Find Microphone and set it to Allow.

  4. Refresh the page.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Navigate to the Barti app in Edge.

  2. Click the lock icon (🔒) to the left of the address bar.

  3. Find Microphone and set it to Allow.

  4. Refresh the page.

2. Verify your microphone selection in Barti

Even with browser permission granted, calls will fail if no microphone device is selected in Barti.

  1. Click your initials in the top-right corner of the Barti app.

  2. Confirm that Allow incoming calls is toggled on.

  3. Confirm that a microphone is selected in your settings.

3. Test your calls

Once permissions are set and a microphone is selected:

  1. Call your office number from the Barti app and confirm the call stays connected.

  2. Call a cell phone you have access to and confirm two-way audio works.

What you'll see when it works

The call connects and stays connected without beeping. You can hear the other party and they can hear you.

Troubleshooting

Microphone is already set to Allow — calls still beep and disconnect

Verify that the correct microphone device is selected inside the Barti app (step 2 above). If your computer has multiple audio inputs (built-in mic, headset, USB device), the browser may have permission but Barti may be pointing to the wrong one.

I don't see a sliders icon or lock icon in my browser

Make sure you're on the Barti app page (not a blank tab) before looking for the icon. The icon only appears when you're on an active website.

The Allow incoming calls toggle is on and the microphone is selected, but calls still fail
