How do I set up TriZetto before submitting my first claim?

Complete account setup, ERA (remittance) enrollment, and EFT (direct deposit) enrollment in TriZetto before submitting your first claim. Enrollments must be completed per payer, provider, and location — auto-posting won't work without them.

Who this is for: Barti administrators and billing staff setting up TriZetto for the first time.

1. Account & access setup

  • Confirm your TriZetto Site ID is entered in Barti → Insurance → Claims → three-dot menu (top right).

  • Add Barti RCM team members as users in TriZetto so they can view your enrollments and payments.

  • If you have multiple locations or a legacy site, confirm your current active site is selected. Your legacy site will appear as read-only historical data.

  • The Vendor Site ID field in TriZetto may appear blank — this is normal for Barti clients. Leave it blank unless a payer specifically requires it.

2. ERA enrollment (Electronic Remittance Advice)

ERA enrollment allows EOBs and remittances to auto-post into Barti. Without it, payments arrive in TriZetto but do not post automatically.

  • In TriZetto, open the Open Tasks tab to see all pending enrollment actions. Each task represents one enrollment step.

  • Complete ERA enrollment for every payer you bill to.

  • ERA must be set up per provider AND per location. With multiple providers and locations, expect a large number of tasks.

  • To complete a task: click into it, read the instructions, click Complete Steps, then click Submit. Most tasks only require reading a note and submitting.

  • Monitor enrollment progress through these stages: New → Generation & Processing → Payer Processing → Ready for Status → Completed.

  • Check the estimated completion dates in the enrollment dashboard for each payer.

Important: Do not submit claims for a payer until ERA enrollment is complete — payments will not auto-post without it.

3. EFT enrollment (Electronic Funds Transfer)

EFT enrollment allows payers to deposit payments directly into your practice bank account. Without it, payers will mail paper checks to the office.

  • Complete EFT enrollment for every payer to receive direct deposit.

  • When an open task requests it, scan and upload a voided practice check to verify the bank account.

  • Set up your bank profile in TriZetto → Bank Profiles.

  • EFT enrollment is also per provider and per location — expect the same volume of tasks as ERA.

  • Without EFT: track receipt of paper checks by scanning them into Barti under the Bill Billings patient record.

4. TriZetto training

TriZetto offers live webinars and on-demand video training. Recommended for all billing staff, especially those new to EDI billing.

  1. In TriZetto, go to Resources → Training → EDI Enrollment Portal to register.

  2. Sign up for the following:

    • EDI Enrollment webinar — covers ERA, EFT setup, and the enrollment task workflow.

    • Claims Submission training — covers primary claim submission, secondary billing, and batch submission.

    • Denial Management training — covers working rejected claims and non-payment remits in TriZetto.

  3. On-demand video is available for all topics if staff cannot attend live sessions.

Tip: Live webinars allow you to ask questions directly. Recommended for billers new to TriZetto or EDI billing.

5. Eligibility verification

  • Use TriZetto to check patient eligibility for medical insurance. Availity is an alternative for some plans (BCBS, Cigna).

  • For vision insurance (VSP, iMed, Spectera, etc.), check eligibility and pull authorizations directly on each vision portal.

  • Best practice: run eligibility checks 1 week in advance for all scheduled appointments and pull authorizations at the same time.

Note: Barti's built-in eligibility verification tool is in development. Once launched, eligibility can be checked directly within Barti without logging into TriZetto separately.

6. Claims workflow in TriZetto

  • Understand the claim status flow: Draft → Hold → Pending → Paid / Partial Paid / Rejected / Error.

  • Claim corrections must be made in TriZetto — rejected claims cannot be corrected in Barti at this time.

  • After correcting a claim in TriZetto, the updated status syncs back to Barti within a few hours to a few days — it is not instant.

  • After correcting a claim, add an internal note in the Barti claim record: what was corrected, the date, and the check/EOB reference.

  • Batch submission: in Barti → Insurance → Claims, check boxes next to multiple Hold-status claims → Submit Claims. Do not include VSP or vision portal claims in a batch submit — uncheck them first.

7. Denial management in TriZetto

  • Go to TriZetto → Manage Payments → View Insurance Payments → check Show Archived → click Search to see all payments including denials.

  • Look for Non-Payment items — click into each to review the denial reason.

  • In Barti → Insurance → Payments, zero-dollar payments (denials) appear as Needs Review — review and post them to document the denial.

  • Post zero-dollar denials with the appropriate denial code (e.g., CO-16) even if nothing is being paid — this creates an audit trail for AR management.
