Understanding shipping rates

How Beventi calculates shipping rates at checkout

Shipping rates are the delivery fees buyers pay in addition to the products they order.

Beventi calculates shipping at checkout from the buyer's destination and the products in their cart. You can keep shipping simple with one flat rate, or build more detailed rules for different products, regions, order values, quantities, or weights.

How Beventi Chooses Shipping At Checkout

When a buyer reaches checkout, Beventi checks:

  1. Which products are in the cart.

  2. Which shipping profile each product uses.

  3. Which zone matches the buyer's destination.

  4. Which rate applies to the cart total, quantity, or weight.

  5. Whether every product in the cart can be shipped to that destination.

If a cart includes products from more than one shipping profile, each profile must have a matching zone and rate for the buyer's destination. If one profile cannot quote shipping, the buyer may not be able to complete checkout for that cart.

Shipping Profiles

Every order form has a General shipping profile. Products use the General profile unless you move them into a custom profile.

Create a custom shipping profile when some products need different shipping rules. For example:

  • Oversized or heavy items.

  • Bundles or boxed sets.

  • Signed editions or special packaging.

  • Products that need to ship separately.

  • Products with different domestic or international shipping prices.

Custom profiles have their own zones and rates. They do not automatically reuse the General profile's zones.

Shipping Zones

A shipping zone is a group of destinations that share the same rates.

For example:

  • United States

  • United Kingdom

  • Europe

  • Australia and New Zealand

  • Rest of world

Zones can cover an entire country, selected states or provinces, selected postcodes or ZIP codes, or Rest of world.

Rest Of World

Rest of world is a catch-all zone for destinations not covered by your other zones.

Beventi checks specific matches first. A postcode or ZIP match is checked before a state or province, a state or province is checked before a country, and a country is checked before Rest of world.

Use Rest of world when you want to ship internationally without setting up every country one by one.

Shipping Rates

A rate is the amount a buyer pays when their cart matches a zone.

You can create:

  • Flat rates.

  • Free shipping rates.

  • Rates based on order price.

  • Rates based on order quantity.

  • Rates based on order weight.

  • Base price plus amount per quantity.

Rates can have limits. For example, one rate can apply to orders from 1-5 items and another rate can apply to orders from 6 items and up.

What Happens When No Rate Applies

If Beventi cannot find a matching rate, the buyer will not see a usable shipping option for that destination and basket.

Common reasons this may happen include:

  • The product's shipping profile has no zones.

  • The matching zone has no rates.

  • A conditional rate does not cover the buyer's cart value, quantity, or weight.

  • A weight-based rate is used, but one or more products have no weight in their settings.

  • A price-based rate is used, but one or more products have no price in the order form currency.

Use Validate & test to catch these issues before buyers reach checkout.
