Understand Easyship live rates and backup rates
Easyship live rates are carrier offers calculated for the buyer's destination and basket. They are different from saved flat, item-based or weight-based rates that you set yourself.
What is sent for a quote
Beventi builds the request from:
The ship-from address in use.
The buyer's delivery address.
The products, variants, bundles and quantities in the basket.
Product weights, dimensions and customs information.
Selected package sizes or standard packing behavior.
Shipping profile rules and adjustments.
A missing or inaccurate value can change the result or prevent a live quote.
What buyers can see
At checkout, buyers can be offered services with a carrier name, service name, price and estimated delivery time when available. Beventi shows the available choices with the cheapest first and identifies backup rates when a live service could not be used. The exact choices will depend on the route and parcel.
The cheapest offer is not always the fastest. Give buyers enough information to choose the trade-off that suits them. For an international delivery, duties may be payable on arrival; do not assume that the shipping price means duties are prepaid.
If the live quote fails while the buyer is checking out, Beventi can show a safe retry message or the saved backup options rather than provider error details.
Handling adjustments
Use shipping profile settings when you need to adjust the buyer-facing shipping amount for handling or packing costs. A handling fee can be a flat amount or a percentage and applies to each shipment produced by that profile. Test the final displayed total after changing an adjustment.
Example: if packing a collector box needs additional protective material and staff time, place it in an appropriate profile and apply the intended adjustment there. Do not inflate the product's physical weight to represent a handling fee.
Saved rates as backup
When live rates are enabled, Beventi keeps the saved rates on the shipping profile as backup. They can take over for configured, eligible temporary Easyship failures.
Backup does not apply to every failure. Beventi does not substitute a saved rate for a disconnected or unauthorized account, seller setup error, provider rejection, no-service result or currency mismatch. Fix those problems using the quote diagnostics.
Backup rates are especially useful during a temporary provider outage, but they should still be realistic for the destinations and products they cover.
Example: a domestic profile might keep a flat standard-shipping rate as fallback. If Easyship is temporarily unavailable, the buyer sees that saved rate instead of being unable to check out.
Multiple shipping profiles
Products from different profiles may be quoted as separate shipments. The buyer's shipping total can therefore contain more than one shipment charge.
Use custom profiles only for real fulfillment or pricing differences. Too many profiles can create avoidable split shipments.
International quotes
International services depend on complete customs data. The quote may also show duties or tax information supplied for the route. A shipping rate does not replace your responsibility to check customs declarations, restricted goods and destination rules.
Live quote versus label price
The checkout quote is an estimate based on information available at checkout and can be cached briefly. When you buy a label later, Easyship returns the current fulfillment offers and final wallet charge. Carrier changes, address corrections, parcel changes or a refreshed rate can produce a different amount.
Beventi asks you to confirm when the current label price differs from the earlier estimate.
Beventi does not convert a quote into another currency. The live or backup rate must be compatible with the currency used by the checkout.
FAQ
Why did a buyer receive a saved rate instead of Easyship?
Easyship may have returned no usable service, timed out or failed a readiness check. Run the same basket and address in the quote tester and review its diagnostics.
Does an estimated delivery time guarantee arrival?
No. It is the estimate supplied with the carrier service, not a guaranteed delivery date unless that carrier explicitly says otherwise.
Can the amount charged for a label differ from checkout?
Yes. The final amount is confirmed by Easyship at purchase. Review any price-change prompt before buying.
Do package dimensions matter when the parcel is light?
Yes. Some carriers price using dimensional weight, so a light but large parcel can cost more than its scale weight suggests.
