CSV and Excel import: solve problems

If your CSV or Excel integration shows a tip, usually rows are missing from the file or transactions were uploaded twice. Work through the steps below in order.

ℹ️ Before you start: First start Calculation in the sidebar. Only then do tips and portfolio values show the current state.

Missing History

Step 1, then 3 and 4

Unlabeled

Step 2

Duplicate transactions

Step 3

A repeated upload imports nothing

Re-upload: date limit and duplicates

1. Create the integration again

Matching tip: Missing History (in the transactions).

When Blockpit improves an integration, transactions you have already uploaded do not change. If you upload your exchange's current file into a new integration, you use the improved detection and the problem is often already solved.

To do this, temporarily create a second integration for the same source and compare both. Afterwards, keep only the better one.

⚠️ Caution: If you delete an integration, all of its transactions disappear too, including your changes (labels, merges, notes). Only delete the integration you have not edited.

2. Label or connect transactions

Matching tip: Unlabeled (In/Out).

You can categorize unlabeled transactions afterwards, edit them, or connect matching pairs into a Trade or Transfer (merge). You change several similar transactions at once with a bulk edit.

3. Edit or delete transactions

If tips remain, incorrect or duplicate imported transactions are often the cause. You edit or delete them via the three-dot menu of the transaction in Transactions:

ℹ️ Good to know: You find transactions you deleted in the normal way with the filter View › Status: Deleted and can restore them there.

4. Add missing transactions

If transactions are missing, add them one by one or upload them afterwards: directly as your exchange's CSV file if the integration supports it (stated in its guide), or with the Blockpit Excel template.

Typical mistakes

✗ Uploading one file several times → every transaction appears twice

✗ Choosing the export of a different account type (e.g. only spot instead of all accounts) → deposits or withdrawals are missing, Missing History follows

✗ Re-saving the file in Excel before the upload → Excel can change date and number formats, and then the import reads values wrongly; upload the original file from the exchange

Re-upload: date limit and duplicates

If you upload a file into an integration that already has transactions, Blockpit only takes over transactions after the most recent existing one. Blockpit skips older rows and rows with exactly the same timestamp without a message. Then Blockpit checks every row for duplicates in this integration (time, incoming and outgoing amount, fee) and skips matches, even if the transaction is deleted.

You have …

Result

What to do

corrected faulty rows and uploaded the same file into the same integration again

0 imported, the rows are older than the most recent transaction

choose an earlier import time span in the upload dialog

uploaded a file with rows that your exchange booked retroactively with an older date (e.g. staking or earn payouts)

skipped, often followed by "Missing History" or "Mismatched Balance"

choose an earlier import time span

a new row with exactly the same timestamp as the most recent transaction (e.g. export with date only, no time)

skipped

choose an earlier import time span

deleted a transaction and uploaded the file again to get it back

skipped, it counts as a duplicate

restore it with the filter "View › Status: Deleted"

changed a label or note and uploaded the file again

nothing changes, the row counts as a duplicate

edit the transaction directly in Blockpit

uploaded the same file into two integrations

duplicate transactions, the check only applies within one integration

delete one integration or remove the duplicates

uploaded a file covering a period that the API already delivers

duplicate transactions, API data is not matched against the file

remove overlapping periods from the file beforehand

the same row twice in one file

both are imported

clean the file beforehand

⚠️ Caution: If you choose an earlier import time span in an integration with API or blockchain data, first remove overlapping rows from the file. Otherwise duplicates appear.
