Requesting A Credit Card

If you do not have a valid payment method on file for your customer, you can quickly and easily request credit card information.

Updated over a year ago

There are times when you might not have a valid payment method saved in the dashboard for your customer. For example, the customer might not have added a card yet, or their card might have expired.

It is easy to request a credit card from a customer with just a couple of clicks, see how in this video, or you can read through the step-by-step process below.

Requesting A New Credit Card

Once you have logged into the dashboard, click on the 'CUSTOMERS' button at the bottom of the left side menu.

You can then search for your customer and click on their name to open their account information.

In the bottom right corner you will see all their current payment information. You will then be able to click on the 'REQUEST CARD' button.

Next, you will be asked to confirm that you wish to send a credit card request to the customer. Simply click 'CONFIRM' to request a card be added to their profile.

After clicking on 'CONFIRM', the customer will receive the request to add a card and you'll see a new pop-up box labelled 'Send Message'. In this box, click on 'MESSAGE CUSTOMER' to personalize the message, so they know it's a real request coming from you and not spam or phishing mail.

Once the message autofills for you, you can edit or just send it as is. Click on the blue arrow to send the message, or simply press ENTER and a notification is sent on the Boatyard app to the customer that includes the personal message.

You will receive an email and a notification in the dashboard to let you know when the customer has added their new credit card information.

Note: Security is very important to us. The credit card information is encrypted and stored securely. Only the credit card type and the last four digits of the card will be visible in the account.
