Why was a member charged a different amount than their normal membership fee?

Written by Ronny Christensen

Question:
A member has been charged an amount that does not match their usual membership fee. Why?

Answer:
This is often because the membership has been scheduled to go on hold (pause) during the billing period. In these cases, the system automatically calculates a prorated charge, so the member only pays for the period during which the membership remains active.

Examples:

  • A member is charged USD 225.43 instead of the regular membership fee because their membership goes on hold on July 13. The system therefore only charges for approximately the first two weeks of the billing period.

  • Another member is charged USD 64.40 because their membership goes on hold on July 3. The amount is calculated based on the shorter period where the membership is still active before the hold begins.

Summary:
If a membership charge appears lower or different than expected, first check whether the membership is scheduled to go on hold during the billing period. If so, the prorated charge is correct, as the system automatically adjusts the amount based on the active membership period.
