Import a Roster From a Spreadsheet

Learn how to prepare your spreadsheet, import it into a team roster, and check the results.

If your athletes are already in a spreadsheet, you can paste the list into a team's roster instead of adding athletes one at a time. Bound matches each column to a roster field, adds the athletes to the team, and emails you the results.

NOTE: If your school uses Activity Registration, roster athletes from your registration lists with Manage Athletes instead. Importing can place a student on an active roster before they finish registration.

Prepare your spreadsheet

The first row must be a header row with column names. Each student needs at least:

  • First name

  • Last name

  • Gender (Male or Female)

  • Grade (SR, 12, or Senior) or graduation year (2027)

If you include height, use the format 6-3. Weight must be a whole number, such as 200.

Tip: Click Download Import Template on the import page for a file with every column Bound accepts, including jersey numbers, positions, contact details, and guardian information.

Import the roster

  1. Go to Programs and click the level you're importing into (for example, Varsity).

  2. Click Roster.

  3. Click Manage Roster -> Import Roster.

  4. Click Import Roster (from Spreadsheet) at the top of the page.

Note: The page that opens first is for importing athletes from a previous season's team. The spreadsheet import is the button at the top.

  5. Choose the Column Separtor that matches your data: Tab for rows copied from a spreadsheet, or Comma for text copied from a .csv file.

  6. Copy your rows, including the header row, and paste them into Data.

  7. Click Import.

  8. Check the field selected for each of your column headers. A value from your first row appears next to each header so you can confirm the match. Change any field that's wrong, or choose Do Not Map This Column to skip a column.

  9. Click Run Import.

Bound returns you to the roster page and starts the import. Refresh the page to see the imported athletes on the roster.

Check the results

Bound emails you a Student Import summary with one line per row. For each row, the summary shows whether Bound added a new student record and whether it added or updated the athlete on the roster.

If a student in your spreadsheet isn't in Bound yet, the import adds them as a new student at your school as well as to the team roster.
