Split a Game into its own Event

Learn how to move a game to a new date and split it into its own event.

When one game in an event has to move to a different date, such as when a lower level doesn't have enough players to play on the same day or there aren't enough fields, you can move that game to its own event. First you reschedule the game to its new date, then you split it into a new event. The game keeps its SCHEDULE CHANGES label, and the two events are managed separately from then on.

Do both parts when the season starts within two weeks or is already underway. If it's earlier than that, skip the reschedule and go straight to Split the Game into Its Own Event.

Note: Conference and region/section admins can use these same steps on conference and region/section events.

Tip: To postpone or cancel the game instead, see Postpone, cancel or delete events & competitions (Web).

Move the Game to Its New Date

  1. Go to Events.

  2. Find the event, click the calendar button on the event, and click Reschedule.

  3. Under Reschedule Event Status, click Active.

    • This sets every game in the event to Active - No Schedule Changes, so select it before you change the game you're moving.

  4. Under the game you're moving, select Active - With Schedule Changes.

  5. Enter the new Date. If the times are changing too, change the Start Time and End Time.

  6. Under Reason for Changes, enter a reason, or click Time Change, Location Change, Date Change, Weather, or Opponent Request. A reason is required.

  7. To keep schedule change notifications from going to other schools, select Don't send notification.

  8. Click Save Event Schedule Changes.

  9. In Create New Post, send a message about the change, or close the window.

Split the Game into Its Own Event

Splitting moves the games you choose onto an event of their own. Their officials, teams, and attachments go with them. Worker shifts, ticketing, and transportation belong to the event, so you choose what happens to each.

  1. In Events, find the event on the game's new date. The game shows SCHEDULE CHANGES and is still part of the original event.

  2. Click the gear button on the event, and click Settings. The event opens in a new tab.

  3. Click Event, and click Manage.

  4. Click Manage Event, and click Split Event.

  5. Under Competitions, tick the game you're moving.

    • Anything you leave unticked stays on the original event.

  6. Click What goes with them. If the event has Worker shifts, Ticketing, or Transportation, choose what happens to each.

  7. Click Review, and check the games listed under Moving to the new event and Staying on this event.

  8. To record why you split the event, enter it under Reason for the change (optional).

  9. Click Split the event.

  10. The original event and the new event appear side by side, and the moved game keeps SCHEDULE CHANGES. To keep working on either event, click its Manage Event button.
