Create EANs for Materials

Create EAN codes for materials and configure alternative units of measure in BRAINR.• Associate each EAN with a material and set quantities, units, and weights. • Define container defaults (one Default per container type) to support automatic conversions.

What is an EAN and what is it used for?

The EAN (European Article Number) is a global standard barcode that uniquely identifies products, enabling traceability and efficient material management. In BRAINR, EANs are used to associate materials with alternative units of measure, define containers, and simplify conversion processes. This functionality is crucial for integrating logistics and operational information, ensuring that products are managed correctly throughout the entire production and distribution chain.

Important Note:

  • The Default field should be enabled only when necessary, and only one EAN can be defined as Default per container type.

How to Create a Material EAN

  1. On the Homepage, navigate to the "EANs" module in the Materials section. You can create EANs by editing a material in the EANs tab.

  2. The module displays all EANs configured in the system. Click "Create EAN" in the upper-right corner to begin creation.

  3. In the creation modal, fill in the following fields:

    1. Product: Select the material to which the EAN will be associated.

    1. EAN Code: Enter the EAN code.

    1. Quantity and Alternative Unit: Define the quantity and unit for the conversion alternative.

    1. Quantity and Unit for Conversion: Specify the quantity and unit for the conversion.

    1. Gross and Net Weight: Enter the weight values and select the unit.

    1. Container Type: Categorize the container type for the EAN.

    1. EAN Category (optional): Select an EAN category, if necessary.

    1. Dimensions (optional): Enter the dimensions (length, width, and height).

    1. If you want the EAN to be the default for this container type, check the Default option. It is recommended to have one default for each conversion type, according to the units of measurement used for the product. You cannot have more than one default per type.

  4. After filling in the required information, click Save to confirm. To discard, click Cancel.
