When a client buys a gift card directly from you, over the phone, in person, or as a holiday gift for someone else, you can issue it from your dashboard. You charge the purchaser, Brindlechute creates a gift card with its own 16-digit code, and you can email the card to the recipient right away or hand over the code yourself.
How to issue a gift card
Click Gift cards in the left sidebar, under Products.
Click Issue gift card.
Enter the Credit amount. This is the gift card's value.
Under Purchaser, select the client who is paying for the gift card.
Under Select payment method, choose how the purchaser is paying.
Optional: enter the recipient's name in To and the sender's name in From.
Optional: enter a Message, such as "Happy birthday! Enjoy a day on the river."
Optional: enter the recipient's email address in Email the card to. Leave this blank to issue the card without sending it.
Click Charge and issue.
What happens after you issue a gift card
The purchaser is charged the credit amount, and the gift card appears in the Active tab of your gift cards list.
If you entered an email address, the recipient receives an email titled "A gift card from [sender's name]." The email includes the gift card code, the card's value, your message, and a View your gift card link. The link opens a gift card page that shows the card's value, the To and From names, the message, and the card number with a Copy button. Once the card has been used, the page also shows its remaining balance.
To see the card's code, balance, and history, click the gift card in the list. The Timeline shows when the card was issued and the charge to the purchaser, and later shows every booking the card is spent on. From the same page, you can print, send, refresh, deactivate, or edit the card. See How to Manage a Gift Card.
Good to know
The purchaser and the recipient can be different people. The purchaser is the client who pays for the gift card. The gift card itself isn't tied to the purchaser or any other client, so anyone with the code can use it.
You can send or share the code later. If you left Email the card to blank, open the gift card from the list and click Send code to email it, or click the copy icon next to the code to copy it.
A gift card's value can't be topped up. To give a client more credit, issue a new gift card.
Add a shop link so recipients can book right away. A shop link adds a Shop trips button to every gift card page, including cards you issue from your dashboard. See Add a shop link.
Clients can also buy gift cards online. Issuing a gift card is for sales you handle directly. To let clients buy gift cards in your online booking, see How to Sell Gift Cards Online.
Issuing gift cards from your dashboard lets you sell gift cards however clients reach you, while keeping every card's balance and history tracked in Brindlechute. For how gift cards work end to end, see How Gift Cards Work.
