Release Notes v2.53.0

Written by Sinyee

A fresh new look, plus a smarter Digital Shoebox.

This release brings two of our biggest updates yet — a full interface revamp across the platform, and a major upgrade to Digital Shoebox's document recognition engine — along with a bundle of improvements to Form Design, Sales & Purchases, Products & Services, and Reports.

System Interface Updates

A Refreshed Bukku Experience

We've rebuilt Bukku's interface on a modern front-end framework, bringing a refreshed look and feel across many parts of the platform. You'll notice updated layouts, navigation, and screen designs in several modules as you move around the system.

This is mainly a visual and structural refresh, spread across many different screens rather than one single page, so we won't be walking through every change here. Everything you rely on today continues to work the same way — if a screen looks different from what you're used to, that's expected as part of this rollout, not a bug. As always, if you or a customer run into anything that seems off, let us know.

Digital Shoebox Updates

Digital Shoebox is Now AI-Powered

We've upgraded the Digital Shoebox engine to be more accurate and reliable when processing receipts, bills, and invoices — including documents that are traditionally difficult for OCR-based systems to read. Digital Shoebox now interprets documents more intelligently, correctly capturing line items, totals, and amounts even in cases like:

  • Faded, blurry, damaged, or dirty scans — for example, line-item details, rounding adjustments, and totals are still captured correctly even on a heavily stained receipt.

  • Long, detailed invoices — line items and totals are captured accurately, even on lengthy business invoices.

  • Documents with multiple similar amounts — Digital Shoebox can correctly identify the right amount for the billing period, even when other potentially confusing amounts appear on the same document.

Scenario 1: Faded Receipt

Despite its poor condition, Bukku's Digital Shoebox successfully extracted the item details, individual prices, and totals accurately.

Scenario 2: Damaged Receipt

Bukku can accurately capture line-item details despite the receipt being heavily stained. Rounding adjustments and total are also captured correctly.

Scenario 3: Detailed Business Invoice

Bukku accurately captured the line items and total amount from a lengthy business invoice.

Form Design Updates

Gridlines Form Template

We've added a new form design option called Gridlines for transaction documents.

When selected, it adds visible grid lines to the item table and tax summary table in PDFs, making rows and columns easier to read at a glance.

To use it, go to Control Panel > Form Design, create or duplicate a form design, then select Gridlines under the Customise Design section.

Example 1:

Example 2:

Customise Item Columns and Labels in Form Design

You can now rename the column headers shown on your item tables in PDF transactions, not just show or hide them — so your documents can use your own preferred wording instead of the system defaults, giving you more control to match your documents to your own terminology and branding.

Go to Control Panel > Form Design, click View on your form design, and you'll find the Customise Item Columns and Labels section — the show/hide toggle and label field for each column now sit together in the same row.

Option to Hide Applied Transactions and Balance on PDF Sales / Purchase Transactions

You can now choose to hide applied payments, credit notes and refunds, along with the remaining balance, on PDF sales and purchase documents. Customers will only see the document total, for a cleaner-looking document.

Go to Control Panel > Form Design, click View on your form design, and toggle off Applied Transactions and Balance under Customise Summary Tables.

Note: The Fee toggle is now a separate setting. However, for cash transactions, Fee is only shown on the PDF when Applied Transactions and Balance is also turned on.

Example:

Applied Transactions and Balance: ON

Applied Transactions and Balance: OFF

Customise Applied Transaction Label on PDFs Sales/Purchase Transactions

You can now customise the label shown for payments, credit notes, or refunds applied to offset the transaction balance on your PDFs — so the wording matches your own internal naming or tracking conventions instead of a fixed system label.

Go to Control Panel > Form Design, click View on your form design, and you'll find Applied Transaction Label under the Customise Summary Tables section.

You can build your own label using the available placeholders, with a live preview shown right below the input field. Leaving it blank keeps the default: [TRANSACTION.TYPE] ([TRANSACTION.NO]).

Example: if you enter [TRANSACTION.TYPE] | [TRANSACTION.NO] ([TRANSACTION.DATE]), the preview will show something like CREDIT NOTE | CN-123456 (29/06/1999).

Here's an example on a sales invoice, with a credit note applied:

Sales & Purchases Updates

Default Invoice / Bill Payment Mode

No more re-selecting the same payment mode every single time. If your invoices or bills are almost always Credit (or Cash), you can now set that as the default — new documents come pre-selected automatically, cutting down manual clicks and mistakes.

Head to Control Panel > Company Settings > General — under Sales Settings, set your Default Invoice Payment Mode (Credit Sales or Cash Sales); under Purchases Settings, set your Default Bill Payment Mode (Credit Purchase, Cash Purchase, or Expense Claim). Applies company-wide, and defaults to Credit if left untouched.

Tag Filter on Sales & Purchases Transaction Listings

Sales and Purchases transaction listings can now be filtered by tag, using the same tag logic already used in reports — handy for quickly narrowing down large transaction lists to a specific category (e.g. by project, salesperson, or branch) without leaving the listing screen.

Click More Filters on any sales/purchase listing screen and you'll find a new Tag filter. Only one tag can be selected per tag group at a time, but tags from different groups can be combined.

Copy Items from Bill to Invoice

If you buy items to resell, you can now copy line items straight from a Bill into a new Sales Invoice, instead of re-entering them.

Go to Purchases > Bills, and locate the relevant bill, click the three dots (⋯) next to View, then select Copy Items to… > Invoice.

You can also perform this directly inside a Bill by clicking:
Action → Copy Items to Invoice.

Multiple Payment Terms on Sales Documents

Quotations and Sale Orders can now carry more than one payment term, so you can set up staged or installment payments (e.g. 50% deposit on order, balance due upon delivery) right from the quotation stage, instead of being limited to one term per document.

And here's how it appears on the generated PDF:

Applied Transaction Details Shown via Info Icon

On invoices, bills, credit notes, and payment pages, the applied transaction reference (e.g. a payment or refund number) is no longer a clickable link. Instead, an info icon next to it opens a popover card with the transaction's number, date, and amount, plus a View button to go to that transaction's page. Lets users check applied details at a glance, without leaving the page.

Report Updates

Invoice Item Detail Report

A new report lists line-item details grouped by invoice, giving a full breakdown of items across your invoices in one view.

Find it at: Reports > All Reports > Sales Reports > Invoice Item Detail

Account Transactions Report

A new report is now available for users who want to see all transactions across all account types in one place, instead of checking each ledger separately.

Find it at: Reports > All Reports > Ledger Reports > Account Transactions

Tag Column Added to Aged Receivables Detail / Aged Payables Detail Reports

The Aged Receivables Detail and Aged Payables Detail reports now support a Tag column — hover over the tags to see the full list of tags on a transaction.

Contact 2 Column Added to Bill Summary Report

The Bill Summary report now supports Contact 2 and Contact 2 Code columns — handy for seeing the supplier behind an expense claim bill.

SKU Column Added to Product Sales / Purchase Summary Reports

You can now show and sort by a SKU column, right after the product name, on the Product Sales Summary and Product Purchase Summary reports — turn it on via Select Columns (off by default).

Non-Taxable and Tax Exempted Amount Columns in SST Reports

SST reports (SST Sales Detail, SST Purchase Detail, SST Payment Collection, SST by Products) now break out Non-Taxable Amount and Tax Exempted Amount into their own columns instead of lumping them together with Taxable Amount, giving a clearer breakdown for verification.

Reference No. Column in Bank Reconciliation Report

The Bank Reconciliation report now supports a Ref No column (via Select Columns, off by default) so you can cross-reference transaction reference numbers directly in the report.

Products & Services Updates

Duplicate Products & Services

Users can now duplicate an existing product/service instead of creating a similar one from scratch — saving time for anyone managing large or similar product catalogs.

At Products & Services, click the three dots (⋯) next to a product's View button,

then select Duplicate.

You can also do this directly from a product's detail page — click the Duplicate button.

That wraps up this round of updates! We hope these improvements make managing your business even easier — more updates are on the way. If you need any assistance, our support team is always ready to help. 😊
