Want to save time reviewing open-ended responses? CampusKnot now allows you to use AI to automatically grade open-ended poll submissions.
🎯 The more specific and detailed your grading criteria, the better your results.
This feature is currently in development (Beta). If you have questions or feedback, please email us at support@campusknot.com.
📝 Before You Start
The AI uses your grading criteria to evaluate student responses.
To get the most accurate results, you must include:
Clear expectations
Specific points to reward
Examples (if applicable)
⚠️ Do not enter a "correct answer" in the grading criteria section. This section is visible to students and is meant only for instructions or rubrics.
🛠 How to Grade Open-Ended Polls with AI
Go to the Polls tab inside your course
Click Create Poll
Select Open-Ended as the question type. Once your poll is created to add AI grading, you'll need to choose the 'Edit' option.
Choose the ⚡️Auto-Grade with AI Option
Set a rubric or copy/paste a grading criteria and publish
You can manually adjust grades anytime or regrade responses if needed
Once students respond, the AI will grade based on your rubric and assign points automatically.
✅ Examples of Grading Criteria to Minimize the Use of AI
Example 1: Reflection Prompt
Prompt: “What’s one takeaway from today’s class?”
Grading Criteria:
Mentions a concept discussed in class (+1)
Explains why it was important (+1)
Provides a personal connection or example (+1)
Example 2: Short-Answer Assignment
Prompt: “Explain the role of enzymes in metabolism.”
Grading Criteria:
Defines enzymes and their function (+1)
Mentions substrate interaction (+1)
Connects enzymes to metabolism (+1)
🧠 Pro Tip: Use clear bullet points, and avoid vague phrases like “good explanation.”
⚠️ What the AI Can’t Grade (Yet)
❌ Uploaded content (PDFs, images, Word documents)
❌ Handwritten responses
❌ Responses submitted outside the poll text field
Please review those manually if submitted.
