How to Create a Points Post

Create a points post to reward student participation.

A Point Post encourages participation by rewarding students who engage with instructor-generated prompts (e.g. questions, activities). Students earn points automatically when they interact within the post’s time window.

When to use Point Posts inside the Feeds?

Steps to Create a Point Post

Step 1 Click on the 'New Activity' button

Click New Activity on your course dashboard.

Step 2 Choose a post option

Select an activity from the activity types.

Step 3 Fill-in the 'Message' and select 'Topic Tags'

Fill in your discussion message and topic tags.

Step 4 Select 'Award points'

Click Award points to assign points to this discussion.

Step 5 Fill-in the information

  • Choose between Duration and Custom Due Date

  • Input the amount of comment(s) or reply limit

Choose participation settings and set points for comments and replies.

Step 5 Once you're ready, hit 'Save'

Click Save to confirm the point settings.

Step 6 Click 'Publish to Students' or 'Schedule' your post for a later time

Click Publish to Students to post the discussion.
