Uploading your syllabus helps CampusKnot turn your course goals into measurable learning progress by aligning class activity with student progress, class after class, while also reducing manual setup.

What you’ll need

  • A CampusKnot faculty or Teaching Assistant account

  • Your syllabus file ready to be uploaded (PDF, DOCX, or TXT). If you don't have an updated syllabus yet, no worries. Just upload an old syllabus.

How to create your course

1) Open the course creator

  1. From your CampusKnot dashboard, go to Courses (left side).

  2. Click the pink “+” button (Create course).

  3. In the window that opens, confirm you’re on the Create course tab (not Join course).

You’ll see two tabs:

  • Create course

  • Join course (for students or anyone joining an existing course)

2) Upload your syllabus (optional, recommended)

You’ll land on Step 1: Upload syllabus.

Option A: Upload a syllabus

  1. Drag and drop your syllabus into the upload box or click Browse file.

  2. Select your file (PDF, DOCX, or TXT).

  3. When the file appears, click Continue. Heads up: It may take up to 2 minutes for your course to be created after the syllabus upload.

Option B: Skip

  • Click Skip for now to set up your course manually.

Tip: Uploading your syllabus can auto-fill items like your course name/code, description, learning objectives, and topic tags.

3) Configure your course

Ensure the fields below are correct:

  1. Enter your Student count.

  2. Course type. Select one:

  3. Course details

    • Standard Course: best for classes that meet at the same time.

    • Multi-section: best if you teach multiple sections that are cross-listed (grouped) inside your LMS and have different meeting times.

  4. Description + learning setup (if pulled from syllabus). Review and adjust:

    • Description

    • Learning Objectives (you can tag each objective with levels like Analyze, Apply, Create, Evaluate, Recall, Understand)

    • Topic Tags (remove tags if needed, or click + Add topic tag)

5. Click Continue.

4) Upload materials (optional)

  1. Drag and drop course files or click Browse file.

  2. Accepted types include PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT, and images (the uploader shows the max size).

  3. When ready, click Create course.

What happens next

After creating your course:

  • You’ll see a confirmation message: “Course created successfully.”

  • You’ll be taken into your course, where you can create posts and polls:

    • Using the tags created from the syllabus upload

    • Match learning objectives.

  • Once you've created a course, it's time to invite your students and TAs.

Update course settings or manage uploads later

Inside your course:

  1. Click the gear icon ⚙️ (top right).

  2. Select Course settings.

  3. Use the tabs:

    • About (edit course details)

    • Admin

    • Permissions

    • Uploads (upload or delete files)
