Referral Perks: Reward Both Sides of a Referral

Written by Vinay Kumar

Referral Perks let you define custom rewards for both people involved in a referral: the customer who shares their referral link, and the friend who joins through it. Instead of a single generic reward, you can highlight specific, tangible perks — like "free keychain" for the referrer and "Free stickers" for their friend — right on your referral widget.

You can create multiple Referral Perks and run them side by side, so customers see all the ways they and their friends can benefit from sharing.

How it works

Each Referral Perk is made up of two parts:

  • Referring customer perk — the reward description shown to the person who shares their referral link (e.g. "Earn 100 Bonus Points per Referral").

  • Referred friend perk — the reward description shown to the friend who joins via that referral link (e.g. "Get 15% Off Your 1st Order").

These are descriptive labels shown on your storefront referral panel to set clear expectations. They display alongside your program's existing referral reward (such as a $ off coupon), giving customers a fuller picture of what's in it for them and their friends.

Setting up a Referral Perk

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Apps > Casa Loyalty > Program.

  2. Scroll to the Referral Perks section.

  3. Click Add Referral Perk.

  4. Fill in the two fields: Referring customer perk and Referred friend perk.

  5. Under Status, choose Active to make it live, or Disable to save it without showing it yet.

  6. Click Save.

Your new perk appears in the Program Perks list, showing both sides of the reward and its status. Click Edit next to any perk to update it later.

Adding multiple perks

Click Add Referral Perk again to create additional pairs — for example, one perk offering a free keychain and stickers, and a second offering a free bag and water bottle. All active perks are listed under Program Perks and display together on your storefront.

What customers see

On the storefront referral panel, active Referral Perks appear under a Perks section:

  • You get — the referring customer perk

  • They get — the referred friend perk

These show alongside the program's standard referral reward (e.g. a $5 off coupon).

Tips

  • Keep perk descriptions short and specific.

  • Use Disable rather than deleting to pause a perk temporarily.

  • Pair Referral Perks with Referral Milestones for both one-time and higher-volume referrers.
