To have taxes automatically calculated and applied to your packages, go to Manage --> Business Settings --> Taxes and click New Tax Zone.
Check Cherry uses TaxJar to calculate taxes, so you can leave the default selected to automatically calculate and charge sales tax on packages based on the location of the event.
Alternatively, you can charge a flat tax rate; or you may have it applied only to certain states.
Once you have your taxes configured, you can test it by clicking the Try it Out button.
Tax on Packages
By default, packages are set to be taxable. You can disable charging sales tax on specific packages by going to Manage --> Packages, clicking on the package you want to edit, select the Pricing and Scheduling tab, and un-checking the Taxable box in the Pricing section.
Tax Exempt Clients
If your client is tax exempt, you can configure Check Cherry to not charge sales tax for that client on any booking they make. Go to Manage --> User Accounts, search for the client, then click the down arrow next to the Show User button on the client's card, and select Edit User.
At the bottom of the user's account page, change the radio button to Yes under the Sales Tax section where it asks 'Is this user tax exempt?" Click the Update User button to save your changes.
Can I make a specific booking tax exempt?
Absolutely! This works on both confirmed bookings as well as proposals. Go to Sales --> Bookings or Sales --> Proposals and select the booking you want to edit. From your booking, click the Edit button next to the package and select "Edit or Choose New Package". Then un-check the Taxable box to set this event as tax exempt.
How do I see how much I've collected in sales tax?
You can run a report to show how much sales tax you've collected by going to Sales --> Reporting and selecting the Sales Tax report. Click the Customize button to change various report points.
What tax forms will I get from Check Cherry?
Depending on your payment volume, you'll likely receive a 1099-K form from Check Cherry. That will cover any payments processed through Check Cherry Payments. You may (or may not) also receive a 1099-K from Venmo or any other payment processor you use, depending on the volume. Those are sent in the first few weeks of January and you should expect to receive them by January 31st.
