How do I pay corporate income tax to the CRA with Chexy?

Step-by-step instructions for paying corporate income tax instalments and balances (RC account) to the CRA by Pre-Authorized Debit with Chexy.

Corporate income tax is the tax your corporation pays on its profit. Most corporations pay instalments during the year, monthly or quarterly, and the balance after their year end. You can pay both with your credit card through Chexy.

Chexy pays the CRA by Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD). You set up the payment in Chexy, then schedule the CRA to withdraw it from your Chexy account. The payment only goes through when both steps are done.

Before you start

  • You need a Chexy business account. Learn how to get started. Corporate income tax applies to corporations only.

  • Business taxes can only be paid by Pre-Authorized Debit. Bill pay isn't available for them.

  • Your CRA corporate income tax account number is your 9-digit business number followed by RC0001 (for most corporations).

  • Have ready: the amount (from your accountant or your CRA account), whether it's an instalment or a balance owing, the period it applies to, and your payment date.

  • The CRA won't accept a payment date sooner than 5 business days away, so set it up at least a week ahead. If your instalment or balance is due sooner than that, pay it outside Chexy this time and set up Chexy for the next one.

  • From Quebec or Alberta?

    • If you're paying corporate taxes to Revenu Québec with a 20-digit payment code, follow these instructions.

    • We don't support corporate tax payments to the Government of Alberta.

Step 1: Set up the payment in Chexy

  1. From your dashboard, tap New Payment and search for CRA.

  2. Select CRA - Canada Revenue Agency, then Business taxes & remittance.

  3. Enter the amount and a nickname so you can tell your payments apart, for example ABC Co. Corporate Tax Instalment 2026.

  4. Under Repeats, choose Monthly for monthly instalments, Quarterly for quarterly instalments, or One-time for a balance owing. The CRA has no quarterly schedule, so quarterly instalments need a one-time CRA payment each quarter (step 6 in Step 2).

  5. Review the details and tap Continue. If it's your first payment with Chexy, you'll verify your identity and business details, link your Aeroplan account (optional), and add your credit card.

  6. Do a final review, then tap Activate, or Pay now for a one-time payment.

  7. Back on your dashboard, open the payment and tap PAD details. Copy the institution, transit and account numbers, or download the void cheque with your Chexy account details. You'll need them in Step 2.

Note the Funds available date on the payment. For a one-time payment, your card is charged right away and the funds are available 3 business days later. The CRA payment date in Step 2 must be on or after the Funds available date.

Step 2: Schedule the withdrawal in your CRA account

  1. Sign in to CRA My Business Account as your corporation, not your personal account. You'll start on the Overview page.

  2. In the left menu, choose Corporation income tax, then your account (RC0001).

  3. Tap View and pay account balance.

  4. Under Payment on filing and Interim balance, choose the period-end you're applying the payment to and enter the amount. Tap Proceed to pay.

  5. Tap Start. The CRA shows three options: debit, scheduling from a chequing account, or paying in person. Choose the middle one, Schedule one or more payments from your Canadian chequing account.

  6. Under How often?, choose the frequency and Payment date. For monthly instalments, choose monthly and enough payments to cover the rest of the year. For quarterly instalments or a balance owing, choose one time, and repeat these steps each quarter. The CRA won't accept a date sooner than 5 business days away.

  7. Under banking information, choose Enter new banking information and enter your Chexy branch, institution and account numbers. If you've paid through Chexy before, choose Use existing banking information and check it shows People's Trust Company.

  8. Review the summary, tick the Authorization box, and tap Submit.

New corporate income tax payments can't be scheduled from Manage pre-authorized debit > Schedule payments. Use the steps above.

Already have a corporate tax PAD with the CRA? Switch it to Chexy

If you already pay corporate income tax by Pre-Authorized Debit from your bank, edit the existing agreement instead of creating a new one:

  1. Sign in to CRA My Business Account. On the Overview page, under Business balance and services, select Manage pre-authorized debit.

  2. Select your corporate tax agreement from the list, then Edit. You can only edit it if the next payment is at least 5 business days away.

  3. Make sure the Next payment date is on or after the Funds available date in Chexy, so there are enough funds to withdraw.

  4. Near the bottom, select Enter new banking information and enter your Chexy PAD details.

  5. Review and Submit.

If you've paid corporate taxes by bill pay before, there's no agreement to edit. Create a new one using Step 2 above.

Changing a payment later

To change the date or amount, update it in both Chexy and your CRA account. Changing only one side means the CRA withdraws a different amount, or on a different date, than Chexy has ready.

Check it's set up

On the CRA Overview page, under Business balance and services, select Manage pre-authorized debit (not Direct deposit transactions, which is for payments the CRA makes to you). Your corporate tax debit is listed there even though you can't create one from that screen. If it's listed with the right amount and date, you're all set; don't create another one, or the CRA may withdraw twice. The Payments remaining column shows when it will end. If the CRA stopped withdrawing, check View inactive agreement(s): the debit has probably reached its last payment, so set up a new one and message us so we can pause your card charges.

When is my card charged?

  • Repeating payments: 3 business days before each payment date.

  • One-time payments: when you complete setup.

  • Paying with Amex: your first payment to the CRA, and every one-time payment, shows as Pending until the CRA withdraws. We charge your card once the withdrawal clears. There's nothing you need to do.

Common corporate tax mistakes

  • Applying the payment to the wrong period, so an instalment is treated as a balance payment or the other way round.

  • Choosing the CRA's debit option instead of your chequing account.

  • Choosing too few payments for monthly instalments, so the CRA stops withdrawing before your year end while your Chexy payment stays active.

  • Trying to schedule it from Manage pre-authorized debit, where corporate tax isn't available.
