Job Types: Ongoing, Projects & Work Orders

Understand how to choose the right job type.

Written by CustomerCareTeam

Overview

Chronotek PRO includes three types of jobs:

  • Ongoing

  • Projects

  • Work Orders

Each type is designed for a different kind of work, based on the timeline in which it should be managed.

Ongoing Jobs

Ongoing jobs are used for recurring work with a consistent timeline.

  • Follows a repeating schedule (daily, weekly, etc.).

  • Used for regular, ongoing services.

Example:

Nightly cleaning at an office building:

  • Happens every weekday evening.

  • Follows the same schedule every week.

  • Work is expected to be completed during each scheduled shift.

An Ongoing job keeps this work:

  • Consistent

  • Predictable

  • Easy to track

Projects

Projects are used for work that must be completed within a defined timeframe, but the timeline may change or require flexibility.

When to Use a Project:

  • The work is planned ahead of time.

  • It must be completed within a defined window.

  • The exact day or time may vary.

Example:

Carpet cleaning at a client location:

  • Must be completed within a specific timeframe, such as quarterly.

  • Can be done at any time during that period.

A Project keeps this work:

  • Visible

  • Flexible

  • On track within the required timeframe

Key Characteristics:

  • Worked within a date range, not a specific shift.

  • Often used for periodic or recurring tasks.

  • Keeps work visible without locking it to a specific day.

Work Orders

Work Orders are used for pre-approved work that needs to be completed within a specific timeframe, usually for a specific day.

When to Use a Work Order

  • A one-time work request for a specific day and timeframe.

  • Clients have one-off requests.

Examples:

  • An additional cleaning job due to a water leak

  • A one-off request for patrol duty at a bar

A Work Order allows you to:

  • Separate budgets from ongoing jobs.

  • Keep it visible on the schedule.

  • Ensure it gets completed.

Key Characteristics:

  • Flexible scheduling

  • Usually will not be repeated

  • Not tied to strict schedule patterns
