Video moderation

How video moderation works, how it differs from images, and how to review video results

Moderation can review videos as well as images - checking what appears on screen across the length of the video, not just a single frame. This article explains how video moderation works, how it differs from image review, and what to pay attention to in video results.

What video moderation checks

Video rules analyze the video over time by sampling frames throughout its duration - and in some cases the audio. Four video rule types are available:

  • 🎞️ Video Content Detection - objects, brands, or visual concepts you describe appearing anywhere in the footage.

  • 🖥️ Video On-Screen Text Check - the text visible on screen (captions, overlays, signs), checked against a question you write.

  • 🔠 Video Transcript Check - what is said in the video, via the audio transcript.

  • 🗂️ Video Text Metadata Match - whether on-screen text matches the asset's own metadata (for example, the right product name).

See "Video rule types and how to use them" for every setting.

How video review differs from image review

  • The whole timeline is checked. A video can fail because of something visible for just a moment - the result reflects the worst moment, not the average.

  • Processing takes longer. Every sampled frame is analyzed, so a single long video can take several minutes; video-heavy runs are the most common reason a run stays in Running for a while.

  • A video has one result. Like images, each video ends up ✅ Approved, ❌ Rejected, or 🚩 Needs review - with explanations pointing you to the moments that mattered.

How to moderate videos

  1. Select Run Moderation > One-time moderation (or set up ongoing moderation).

  2. In Select Assets, switch the asset type to Videos. (A run checks one asset type at a time)

  3. Browse or search for the videos to include.

  4. In Select Rules, pick video rules or a video policy. Only rules that support video appear.

  5. Confirm and run.

Reviewing video results

  1. Open the run and select a video, or use Preview mode for the full experience: a video player with standard controls on the left, rule results on the right.

  2. In the Moderation tab, read each rule's explanation. When an explanation refers to a specific moment, it includes a timestamp you can click - the player jumps straight to that point.

  3. Watch the flagged moments, then decide: Approve, Reject (with reasons), or Skip, exactly as with images.

What to pay attention to

  • Use the timestamps. Don't scrub through the whole video - the explanations point you to the exact moments the rules reacted to.

  • Brief appearances count. A logo or text visible for one second can trigger a rule; decide whether that matters for your use case and tune the rule accordingly.

  • Very long or very large videos may not be processed - keep videos within your plan's size limits, and split extremely long content if needed.
