The main new features and improvements in Cloudinary Moderation, month by month - newest first

The main new features and improvements in Cloudinary Moderation, newest first. This page is updated every month.

🗓️ October 2026

New

  • Video Content Detection, rebuilt - describe in your own words what a video must or must not show (for example, "The video must not show alcoholic drinks"), then click Prepare rule. It replaces the earlier label-based version.
See "Video rule types and how to use them".

  • Image Metadata Match - a new image rule type that checks whether an image matches the asset's own metadata, using a yes/no question with # metadata fields. See "Image rule types and how to use them".

  • Choose what happens when there's no C2PA data - in AI-Generated Image Detection with C2PA signal only, the new If no C2PA data is found setting lets you approve, reject, or send those images to review.

  • Find and sort run results - search a run's results by name or public ID (or paste an asset ID), sort by moderation time (Newest first / Oldest first), and filter by date on every results page. See "Review a moderation run".

  • See who did what - the Moderation Runs and Automations tables have a Created by column, and stopped automations show who stopped them. See "Understand the Moderation Runs page".

Improved

  • Safer rule deactivation - deactivating a rule that's in use now opens a dialog listing the affected policies and automations. Running automations are stopped and restarted without the rule. See "Edit, deactivate, or delete a rule".

  • Create Rule dialog - filter rule types by All / Images / Videos, and click a card to read what it does before you click Use this Template. See "Create a rule".

  • CSV export follows your filters - exports now match the status tab, search, and date filter you've applied, and very large exports download as several files.

  • Clearer import results - rules that use a rule type your plan doesn't include are listed as Not included in your plan, with a link to contact us. See "Import and export rules".

  • More accurate video results - fewer false rejections from on-screen text rules, and cleaner result explanations for video rules.

  • Video length limit - rules that look at video frames check up to 600 frames per video, about 10 minutes at 1 frame per second.

🗓️ September 2026

New

  • Choose how rule edits reach automations - when you save a rule that running automations use, choose Restart the automation so it uses the updated rule or Keep the automation running the previous version. See "Edit, deactivate, or delete a rule".

  • See the exact rule version a run used - rule chips on runs, automations, and the Moderation Runs table open the rule's details. A clock icon marks a rule that changed since, and the details show the version that was actually used.

  • C2PA provenance for AI-generated detection - AI-Generated Image Detection now checks an image's C2PA provenance data first. The new Authenticity signals setting chooses between All authenticity signals and C2PA signal only. See "Image rule types and how to use them".

Improved

  • Confirm before deleting - deleting a run or an automation now asks you to confirm, and warns that deleting an active automation also stops it. See "Manage your automations".

  • Inactive and deleted rules in policies - deactivated rules stay in their policies marked Inactive, and the policy page names any deleted rules. See "Create a policy".

  • Smarter policy picking in the wizard - only policies with rules for the asset type you chose are listed, and each policy card shows its rule names. See "Use policies in moderation runs".

  • Stop an automation sooner - while an automation is Stopping, select Stop again to skip the remaining queued assets.

  • Search assets by file name - asset search in the moderation wizard now matches file names too.

  • Starter pack for new accounts - new accounts start with four starter-pack rules: Image Quality, Clean White Background, Centered Product, and Minimum Image Size.

🗓️ August 2026

New

  • Five new rule types - Color Profile (ICC), File Naming Convention (with an AI helper that writes the pattern for you), Minimum DPI, and File Formats for images, plus Video Transcript Metadata Match for videos. See "Image rule types and how to use them" and "Video rule types and how to use them".

  • Restart a stopped automation - Restart opens the wizard prefilled with the original setup and creates a new automation. A new Stopping status shows while queued assets finish. See "Manage your automations".

  • Flag for Review - send an asset back to the Needs Review queue from Preview (keyboard F), with an optional note.

  • Table view for run results - one row per asset, with every rule's outcome at a glance. See "Review a moderation run".

  • Require a reason when rejecting assets - a new setting that makes reviewers pick a rejection reason every time. See "Moderation settings".

Improved

  • See where a rule is used - the rule page lists the policies and automations that use it before you save changes.

  • Review threshold bar for every option - the bar shows the reject, review, and approve ranges for Low, Balanced, and High too.

  • Redesigned Policies pages - rules you've added stay visible in the library with an Added chip, and the policies list shows rules as chips.

  • Video transcript outcomes - choose what happens when a video has no speech or no transcript.

  • Clearer wizard - Images / Videos tabs when selecting assets, and a Create Automation button to finish setting up ongoing moderation.
