Program design is hundreds of small edits. Bump the reps on a squat, tighten the rest on a superset, add a cue to your coach's notes, swap an exercise. Every one of those used to take two clicks: one to open the workout and a second to get to the field you actually wanted, because the cursor always landed in the workout title.
Focus Clicked Field removes that second click. Click the part of the workout card you want to change, and the workout opens with your cursor already sitting in that field. Across a full week of programming, that adds up to a lot of saved clicks and a lot less friction between your coaching decision and getting it on the calendar.
What Focus Clicked Field Does
When you click a workout card on the calendar, CoachRx now remembers what you clicked. The workout form opens with the cursor at the end of the matching field, so you can start typing right away.
If you click... | Your cursor lands in... |
The workout title | The title field |
Coach's notes | The Coach's Notes field |
The warmup | The warmup field |
The cooldown | The cooldown field |
An exercise name | That exercise's name field (the exercise search does not pop open until you start typing) |
An exercise's reps line (the line under the name) | That exercise's "Tempo, Reps, Sets; Rest" field |
Anywhere else inside an exercise (status icon, results line) | That exercise's "Tempo, Reps, Sets; Rest" field |
A conditioning block's name or description | That conditioning field |
Empty space on the card | The title field (same as before) |
Hover Highlight
With the setting on, rest your mouse over part of a workout card and a light tint shows which field a click will open. The highlight is kept quiet on purpose. It only appears after your pointer pauses for a moment, so sweeping across the calendar will not light everything up.
You will not see the highlight while you are selecting multiple workouts, while dragging a workout, on a touch device, or when the setting is turned off.
Where It Works
Client calendar - Works on upcoming workouts (today or later) that open in the inline workout editor. Completed, missed, and past workouts still open the workout details view, so the highlight does not appear on those.
Program calendar - Works the same way on program workouts. On a live program, past days do not open for editing.
How to Turn Focus Clicked Field On or Off
Focus Clicked Field is on by default for every coach. If you prefer the old behavior, you can turn it off in a few seconds.
Open any client calendar or program calendar.
Click Settings in the calendar toolbar (next to Export).
Click Focus Clicked Field.
A checkmark next to Focus Clicked Field means it is on. No checkmark means it is off. The change takes effect immediately. With it off, clicking a workout opens it with the cursor in the title field, exactly like before.
ℹ️
This setting is saved in your web browser. If you log in to CoachRx from a different computer or browser, or clear your browser data, it returns to the default (on). Just switch it off again in Settings if you prefer it off.
Escape Key Improvement
This update also fixes how the Escape key behaves in an exercise name field. This applies whether Focus Clicked Field is on or off.
Before: Pressing Escape in an exercise name field erased the exercise name.
Now: If the exercise suggestions dropdown is open, the first Escape closes the dropdown and keeps what you typed. The next Escape closes the workout form, the same as every other field. CoachRx only saves if something changed, and your exercise name stays put.
Escape still clears the text in search boxes, such as the demo video search, the same as before.
FAQ
Q: Is Focus Clicked Field on by default?
A: Yes. Every coach has it on by default. Turn it off anytime in the calendar Settings menu.
Q: Does this change anything about my programming or what my clients see?
A: No. It only changes where your cursor lands when you open a workout in the coach web app. Your workouts, programs, and the client app are unchanged.
Q: Why did my cursor land in the title when I clicked an exercise?
A: Check that Focus Clicked Field has a checkmark in Settings. Remember the setting is saved per browser, so it may be off on another computer. If you clicked empty space on the card, the title gets focus by design.
Q: Why don't I see the hover highlight?
A: The highlight only shows on workouts that open in the inline editor, with a mouse or trackpad, when you are not selecting or dragging workouts, and when the setting is on.
Q: Does it work on the program calendar too?
A: Yes. It works on both the client calendar and the program calendar.
