Nutrition 2.0 and Food Logging - What is new and how it works

Nutrition 2.0 launches on Wednesday 8th of July 2026.

Written by Malene Malmkjær

This update gives your clients a new nutrition experience in the app, including food logging, barcode scanning, calorie and macro tracking, photo diary, shopping lists, and a better overview of their meal plans.

Your clients will keep their existing meal plans. The new features will be added on top of the current nutrition setup.

⚠️Important⚠️

All new Nutrition 2.0 features will be turned on by default at launch.

If you have clients where you do not want calorie tracking, macro tracking, food logging, or photo diary available, you should review their nutrition settings after launch.

What is new for clients

The Nutrition tab in the client app has been redesigned. It is now built around daily and weekly nutrition tracking, not only showing assigned recipes.

Clients can now:

  • Scan barcodes to log food

  • Search for food items and ingredients manually

  • Log recipes, food items, and custom combinations

  • Choose whether food should be added to breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks

  • Edit, delete, move, or change the amount of logged food

  • See calories and macros for the day if enabled

  • Use a calendar view to look at past and upcoming days

  • Save recipes and food items as favorites

  • Add recipe ingredients to a shopping list

  • Create and use shopping lists in the app

  • Send food photos in a separate food diary feed if enabled

How food logging works

When a client wants to log food, they can either scan a barcode or search for the food manually.

After choosing the food item, they select the amount and which meal it belongs to. The food is then added to that day, and the calories and macros update automatically if those are enabled for the client.

Food is split into:

  • Breakfast

  • Lunch

  • Dinner

  • Snacks

Clients can adjust logged food afterwards. For example, they can change the amount, move it to another meal, or remove it completely.

Barcode scanning and food database

Coachway uses a food database with around 3.700.000 food items.

When a client scans a barcode, Coachway first checks the existing database. If the item is not found there, Coachway can run an additional EAN lookup to find an exact match online.

If an exact match is found, the item is shown to the client and saved, so the next client scanning the same product can find it faster.

If the item cannot be found, the client can still:

  • Add the calories and macros manually

  • Search for a similar food item or ingredient

  • Log the food in another practical way

The database will keep improving over time as more products are scanned and missing items are identified.

Meal plans in the app

Existing meal plans still stay inside the Nutrition tab.

The meal plan view has been redesigned so clients can swipe between assigned meal plans more easily. When viewing a recipe, clients can log that recipe to a meal of the day if food logging is enabled.

Clients can also add ingredients from a recipe directly to their shopping list.

Calories and macros

Calories and macros can now be controlled more flexibly.

You can choose whether clients should see:

  • Calories

  • Macros

  • Both

  • Neither

This means you can still let a client use food logging or barcode scanning without showing calories or macros, if that fits your coaching style better.

The calorie and macro targets shown to the client are based on the latest meal plan or the targets you set in the client’s nutrition settings.

Coach settings and control

Nutrition 2.0 is flexible from the coach side.

You can control which features are available:

  • On account level for new clients

  • Per individual client

This means you can run different nutrition approaches for different clients. For example, one client might use full tracking with calories and macros, while another only uses food diary or meal plans.

You can also gradually introduce features over time if you do not want a client to start with everything at once.

Where coaches see logged food

Client food logs are shown inside the Development tab, where you already review check-ins and client progress.

You will be able to see food logging in different levels of detail:

  • A quick weekly overview

  • A day-by-day view

  • A full food log with meals, recipes, ingredients, calories, and macros

This makes it easier to spot patterns without needing to jump between different parts of the platform.

What you should check before using it with clients

Before your clients start using Nutrition 2.0 actively, we recommend checking:

  • Whether all features should be enabled for all clients

  • Whether any specific clients should have calories or macros hidden

  • Whether food photo diary should be enabled

  • Whether your current meal plan targets are correct

  • How you want to explain the update to your clients

  • Whether you want to send a short broadcast before clients start using it
