How Clients log food in the app

Log meals by searching, scanning a barcode, taking a photo or entering the numbers yourself - plus access favorites, custom recipes, and past logs.

Everything about your food lives in the Food tab. This guide takes you through logging a meal from start to finish, with every logging tool switched on.

One thing before we start: the coach decides which logging tools are visible in the app. This makes it possible to set up tracking differently for each client.

Your Food tab at a glance

At the top you see today's date and a ring for each day of the week. The rings fill as you log. Tap a day to open it, or tap the calendar icon to jump to any date.

The big card shows Calories left for today, with rings for how much protein, carbs and fat you have left of your targets.

If a coach has created a meal plan, it sits under Meal plans. Below that, Today's meals shows Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snacks with everything you have logged so far.

Step 1: start logging

Three ways in from the main Food page:

  1. Tap + Log food at the bottom of the Food tab (like shown in the picture above ☝).

  2. Tap Add item to breakfast (or lunch, dinner, snacks) on a meal card. This preselects the meal.

  3. Use the shortcuts next to the Log food button: the lightning bolt opens Quick add and the barcode icon opens the scanner.

There is an additional option to log meals from inside the already existing meal plan. To do this, simply go to the meal plan and pick the meal you want to log by clicking Log this meal.

There is also a fifth option: if you logged the same meal yesterday, you can copy it straight into today. See Repeat a meal from another day below.

Step 2: check the meal

The selector in the top right shows which meal you are logging into: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner or Snacks. Tap it to switch. You can also change the meal later on the item screen, so nothing is locked in.

A coach's meal plan may use a different meal structure than the default meal categories in the app (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks). This is completely normal.

When logging your meals, simply choose the category that makes the most sense for when you ate the meal. The meal category does not affect the nutrition tracking. All foods and macros are counted the same regardless of which category you log them under.

Step 3: find your food

Pick whichever method fits the situation.

Search the database. Type in the search field to find foods, brands and your own recipes. Tap a result to open it.

Scan a barcode. Tap Scan barcode and line the barcode up inside the frame. If the camera will not catch it, tap Enter code manually, type the number printed beneath the barcode and tap Look up product.

If a scanned product shows the wrong values, log it manually or send us a picture of the barcode and nutritional value on the package.

OR

Log with a photo. Tap Photo Log, snap a picture of your meal and add a note about what is in it - the more detail, the better. Send it and the meal is logged to the meal you picked.

Note that taking a picture and adding it to the log will not automatically track the calories or macros. The intention is to keep the overview collected and for coaches to see what clients eats.

Quick add. Already know the numbers? Tap Quick add (⚡️), give the item a name, enter the calories, and add macros if you know them.

Recent, Favorites and My recipes. Under the search field you find three lists: Recent (your latest logged items), Favorites (items you have hearted) and My recipes (recipes you have built yourself). Tap + on any item to add it straight away, or tap the item to adjust the amount first.

Step 4: set the amount

When you open an item you see its nutrition and the question How much did you eat?

  • Switch between Serving and Grams, depending on how you measured.

  • Use - and + to set the amount.

  • The calories and macros update live as you adjust.

When it looks right, tap Add to breakfast (or whichever meal you picked). The button shows exactly how many calories you are about to log.

Some foods include standard serving sizes, while others only offer grams. Although grams will always be available as a measurement option.

Step 5: done - watch the day update

Back on the Food tab, the item now sits under its meal, Calories left has counted down, and the macro rings show what you have left.

But how do clients delete or change a logged food item?
On the Food tab, swipe the item left to reveal the bin and delete it.

Repeat a meal from another day

Most people eat the same breakfast several days a week. Instead of logging it again from scratch, you can copy a meal between days.

Add from yesterday

When a meal has nothing logged yet, Coachway checks whether you logged that same meal yesterday. If you did, a suggestion appears on the meal card showing how many items it was and how many calories, for example 2 items · 305 kcal.

Tap + and everything goes in today's meal, with the same amounts and macros.

Nothing is locked and you can adjust or remove any item afterwards, exactly like an item you logged yourself.

The suggestion only shows while the meal is still empty. Once something is logged there, it disappears.

Copy to another day

You can also send a meal forward to any date you choose:

  1. Open the meal you want to copy and tap the ⋯ on the meal card.

  2. Tap Copy to another day.

  3. Pick the date in the calendar and tap Confirm.

You get a short confirmation, for example Copied to Friday, Aug 21, and the meal is waiting for you on that day. You can copy to any date, so preparing next Monday's lunch on a Sunday works fine.

Save items you eat often

Search for the food by name, open it from the search results and tap the heart to add it to Favorites. The heart only shows on items you open from search, not on items you open from Recent or straight after a barcode scan.

Once hearted, the item sits under Favorites in Log food, so next time it is one tap away and you don't need to scan it again.

Build your own recipes

For meals you cook again and again:

  1. Go to My recipes and tap Create recipe.

  2. Name it, set the number of servings, and add a cover photo if you want.

  3. Tap Add ingredient and build the recipe from the food database, ingredient by ingredient.

  4. The nutrition calculates automatically from the ingredients. Tap Create recipe.

From then on you log it like any other item, in servings.

-->

Building a shopping list

The Food tab also has a shopping list, under the basket icon in the top left. You can fill it from the recipes in your plan or add items one by one.

Forgot to log a day?

Tap the calendar icon at the top of the Food tab, pick the date and confirm. You can log to any date the same way you log today. The week strip works as well - tap any day to open it.

If the day you are catching up on looked like the day before, copying the meal across is faster than logging it again. See Repeat a meal from another day.

❓If a tool is missing❓

The coach controls which logging tools are available: database search, barcode scanning, photo logging and custom recipes. If one of them is not in the app it has been switched off.
