How to Connect Coinstash to Summ for Tax Reporting

Updated over a month ago

Summ is a crypto tax platform that automatically imports your Coinstash trading history, calculates your capital gains, and generates tax reports ready for your accountant or the ATO. Setup takes about 5 minutes.

Step 1 — Add your Coinstash account in Summ

Log in to Summ and navigate through the onboarding flow: confirm your country, then click Add accounts. On the Import data step, search for Coinstash and click it to open the import panel.

You'll see two options: Sync via API (recommended) and Upload File. Select Sync via API.

Step 2 — Generate a read-only API key in Coinstash

You'll need to create a read-only API key in Coinstash to give Summ secure access to your transaction data.

  1. Log in to Coinstash and click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Account Settings

Coinstash — click profile icon then Account Settings

  1. From the left menu, click Security, then scroll down to API Keys and click Create API Key

Security page — scroll to API Keys and click Create API Key

  1. Enter Summ as the API Key Name

  2. Enter your Coinstash password

  3. Toggle Trade Permission and Withdraw Permission both to OFF

  4. Click Create API Key — a 2FA verification will be sent to your email

⚠️ Important: Keep both Trade and Withdraw permissions OFF. Summ requests view permissions only — it will never request private keys or transfer your funds.

Once created, your key will appear in the list with Permissions: read.

Step 3 — Paste your API key into Summ and connect

  1. Copy the Access Token shown in Coinstash

  2. Return to Summ and paste it into the API Key field

  3. Optionally enter a name in the API name field (e.g. "Coinstash")

  4. Click Secure Connect

Summ will begin syncing your Coinstash transaction history. Your account will appear in the Accounts list with a Syncing status, then update automatically once complete.
