Working Through an Inspection Route

Open a route, read its sections and status icons, reorder the stops, and understand why a site shows as unavailable.

Description: Open a route, read its sections and status icons, reorder the stops, and understand why a site shows as unavailable.

Overview

A route is an ordered list of sites, grouped into sections. Each site shows its inspection status, action items and weather alongside it, so you can see the state of every site on the route without opening them.

This article covers using a route. Routes are assembled for you by an administrator.

Before You Begin

  • You need a route that includes your sites. If you don't have one, ask your administrator to build you one.

  • To actually start inspections from a route, you need a role on those sites that allows inspecting — Inspector, Backup Inspector, or Editor. Viewer is the only role that can't.

Opening Your Route

In the left panel, click the routes icon — the second icon along the top row, next to the house.

Your routes appear in the panel. Click one to open it.

The route opens with its name and description at the top.

Reading the Route

A route is divided into sections. Each section has a name and a count of the sites in it — for example a section called One Day with 5 sites.

Under each section, every site shows:

  • The site name, which you click to open the site

  • The organization the site belongs to

  • The site category — for example Construction

  • Last Inspection Date and who inspected it, when the site has been inspected before

📝 A category's wording can differ between screens. A route shows the category's internal display name, which for two categories is not quite the label on the site form — Common Plan of Development on the site form appears as Common Plan Development on a route. It's the same category.

Reading the Status Icons

Each site carries icons showing what needs attention. Click Legend in the top right to see what they mean.

The icons let you see the state of every site on the route without opening each one.

Changing the Order

Routes open in the order your administrator set. To change it for yourself, click Order by above the site list.

Option

What it does

Admin Defined

The order your administrator built into the route. This is the default.

Old to New

Oldest Last Inspection Date first — the sites you've left longest

New to Old

Most recently inspected first

By default the change applies only to the section you're in. Turn on Apply to All Sections to reorder the whole route at once.

💡 Old to New puts the sites with the oldest Last Inspection Date at the top, regardless of the order the route was built in.

If You See "Some Sites Unavailable"

A banner at the top of a route reads: Some Sites Unavailable — You may not have permission to inspect some sites. Please contact your administrator for access to these sites.

Sites you can't work are still listed, but marked Unavailable.

📝 This is a permissions issue, not a fault with the route. The route includes sites you don't have an inspector role on. You can see they exist, but you can't inspect them.

Ask your administrator for a role that allows inspecting on those sites — Inspector, Backup Inspector, or Editor. Inspector and Backup Inspector are granted per site rather than across your organization, which is the usual reason this banner appears.

What Happens Next

A route is loaded when you open it, so its icons show each site's status at that moment. As inspections come due, are completed or go late — and as weather crosses a site's thresholds — the underlying status changes, and the route picks those changes up the next time you open it.

📝 Reopen a route to bring it up to date. If you've had a route open for a while, the icons still show the status from when you opened it.

FAQ

Q: Every site on my route says Unavailable.

A: You hold no role on those sites that allows inspecting. Ask your administrator for Inspector, Backup Inspector or Editor. Of those, Inspector and Backup Inspector are also what let you be assigned the work.

Q: I don't have any routes.

A: None has been built for you yet. Routes are assembled by an administrator — ask them to create one and include your sites.

Q: The sites are in an order I didn't expect.

A: Order by is set to something other than Admin Defined. Open it and choose Admin Defined to get the route back to how it was built.

Q: I reordered the route but only one section changed.

A: Reordering applies to the section you're in unless Apply to All Sections is turned on. Switch it on, then choose the order again.

Q: A site is missing from my route.

A: Routes list only the sites an administrator added. Ask them to add it.

Q: A site has no Last Inspection Date.

A: It has never been inspected. That's expected for a new site.

Q: A site's status looks out of date.

A: The route shows each site's status as it was when you opened the route. Open it again to refresh.
