FAQs on viewing and sharing data, using filters, data integrations and data quality issues

Updated over a month ago

Contents:

1. Where is the data sourced from?

We pull data from many different sources on the farm (herd management system, feed software, activity sensors, milking parlor, processor data and more).

2. Can I export the data?

Unfortunately, we don't currently support data exports.

3. How can I share the data with a colleague?

Go to My connections on the left-side menu to connect with your team. You can invite a team member or advisor to join your farm (if you are the owner or herd manager) or you can request to view a farm's data as an advisor or farm employee.

*Farmers are the owners of farm data and can give permission to access their data to advisors or other team members.

4. Can I view data on individual cows?

The platform doesn't currently support individual cow data. Instead, most charts show aggregate values or percentages on herd level and for different segments, like pens, DIM groups, lactations and more. Use the filters dropdown on the right of the chart name to select how you want to view data.

*Note that you can only view data per segment when you're viewing a single farm (vs. multiple farms). Select a farm using the dropdown at the top-right of the dashboard.

5. How can I set up or change pens, DIM groups, production groups, etc.?

  • Some segments are set by default and can't be changed, like DIM groups,

  • Others are based on data from the DHMS, like pens, lactation numbers and reproduction stages (open, inseminated, pregnant and dry) and can be changed in the DHMS.

  • Finally, some are set up or changed on request from the farm owner/herd manager, like lactation stages (dry cows, milking cows and youngstock), production groups (high production, low production, far-off and close-up) and custom production groups (customized for each farm).

6. Can Connecterra also show data from other sources, that are not currently integrated?

We currently integrate data from 40+ of most popular systems in the industry. Depending on the source of data you are looking for, we can evaluate whether it's possible to integrate it. Note that this data should be available, i.e. being captured somewhere on the farm. Reach out via info@connecterra.ai to share what kind of data you would be interested to see in the platform and why.

7. I can't see a farm's data or some charts are missing

Make sure you have selected an individual farm: use the farm selection dropdown at the top of the dashboard.

Still not seeing the data? That can happen during a software update. Log out of your account and log back in to refresh.

No luck? Contact us via the support chat in your app.

8. The data isn't up to date

To check the latest time data was pulled from one of your systems:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Scroll down to the Integration data sources table:

*Note that if there are multiple types of data coming from a single system, you will see the date and time of the most recently uploaded data stream.

We pull data from many different sources on each farm and update timings depend on the individual system's delivery timeframe. We do our best to incorporate data as soon as it is received.

Noticed an issue on a chart? Use the Data issues button to easily report it to our team.

9. The data isn't accurate

We do our best to ensure you have access to the most accurate data available. However, this depends on integrations with third party sources and sometimes this causes errors. If you see a data point that seems wrong, use the Data issues button on the chart to report it to our team.

10. What are data anomalies? / What does a dotted line on the chart mean?

The platform uses its intelligence to identify and filter out potential anomalies. When you see this indicator below a chart you can click on it to view the faulty data point.

In the default view, dotted lines indicate faulty data points or potential anomalies. This allows you to exclude them from your analysis, making data more reliable.

When you turn on the preview by clicking the indicator below, the faulty data points are marked with red dots.

What is considered an anomaly in the data and how is that detected?

  • For daily Production metrics, we use a machine learning model to analyze data over the past 30 days and identify data points that deviate significantly from the average values.

  • For other metrics, we use thresholds set per farm to identify data points that deviate significantly from average values. This is available for: behavior, production metrics based on herd tests, feed metrics like DMI per pen, % refusals, and feed costs per pen, health metrics, etc.

11. What does the missing data notification mean?

To improve transparency around data quality, we provide visibility into issues with data. You will see a note below charts with missing data. Click on the notification to preview the gaps in gray.

Data points can be missing for a number of reasons, such as internet malfunctions or local computers being shut down when reports are created/sent. We recommend keeping your local computers on and connected to the internet throughout the night, as that is when data is being transferred.

If you want to change the time when reports are created or see frequent malfunctions/missing data, get in touch so we can help resolve the issues.
