Introduction
The Comment Area widget lets you add a space for community interaction directly on your CCK pages. It’s perfect for use with videos hosted outside of CCK, such as on YouTube or Vimeo, or for use in your Blog section.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to set it up, name it correctly, and decide whether to use one widget across your course or create one per video or blog post.
Drag the Comment Area widget onto your page
Navigate to the page where you want the comment section to appear and drag the Comment Area widget into place.
Once the widget has been added to the page, the Form Settings pop-up will appear:
Name your widget clearly
You’ll be prompted to give your widget a name.
Be sure to make it specific, for example, if you are using the widget for a video, include the course name, module, and video title (e.g. 1.2 Video Series Funnel – List Building Overview).
This will help you later when reviewing or moderating comments.
Set your access permissions
Decide who can post comments:
Admins only
Admins and moderators
All members
You can choose the option that best suits your course community.
Adjust your comment settings
You’ll have several customisation options:
Who can comment? (Approval): Require approval before comments are visible.
Require approval for new comments: Comments not made by Admins or Moderators will need to be approved before being posted.
Allow images: Let users upload images.
Allow mentions: Enable @mentions.
Order: Choose the order the comments will appear in, between newest first (descending) or oldest first (ascending).
Initial number of comments to display: Show 3, 5, 10 or 20 comments at a time.
Enable Reactions: Enable likes and other emoji-style reactions.
Use Dark Theme: Optional dark mode for visual contrast.
Choose between one widget or many
You have two main options:
Use a single widget across your course:
You can add the same comment widget under each video. All comments will then appear in one place and are visible on all pages.
Best for general discussion across the course.Use a separate widget for each video:
Add and label a unique comment widget for each video.
Best for keeping comments specific and organised by content.
⚠️ Important: If you don’t label your widgets clearly, it becomes difficult to know which comments relate to which videos, especially when managing them from the moderation area.
Additional Tips
Hosted videos on CCK already include a built-in comment area, which means you don't need to use the Comment Area widget again.
For videos hosted elsewhere (like YouTube or Vimeo), the Comment Area widget is your best option if you want interaction underneath those videos.
It is best to use the Comment Area widget sparingly, preferably no more than 10 widgets across your site, to keep moderation simple.
What to Do Next
You can manage all comment widgets from the Community → Moderation tab. To see where a comment came from, use the widget name you assigned earlier to match it with the correct video or page.
Conclusion
The Comment Area widget is a great way to invite discussion on videos (when not hosted directly on your CCK Website) or blog posts. Just be sure to label each widget clearly and plan ahead to decide whether you want comments to be shared across pages or to be specific to each one. If in doubt, consider using CCK’s built-in video hosting for a simpler experience.
