Vimeo Videos Overview
Updated over a week ago

In this article, we explore the privacy and branding settings on your Vimeo videos and take you through the steps required to embed your Vimeo videos on your CCK pages.

To be able to apply privacy settings to your Vimeo videos, you have to be on any Vimeo paid account. You can start with the Vimeo Starter plan or go for the Vimeo Standard plan if you want to brand your videos and player buttons as detailed below.

Manual Vimeo Privacy Settings

When embedding a Vimeo video on any CCK page, the following privacy settings have to be applied for the video to be visible on your website, but not shown to others on Vimeo: Hide from Vimeo

The screenshot below shows where this setting can be located on Vimeo.

You will also be able to see the privacy settings of your Vimeo videos on the summary screen of your Vimeo video library as shown below:

To update the privacy settings of any video on Vimeo, open the video you want to change from your Vimeo video library by clicking on the video.

The video settings page will automatically open. Next, select the lock icon that can be found at the top right as shown below.

Under the sharing tab, you want to make sure that the following settings have been applied to the video:

To get your video link, click on the link icon, then click the blue copy button to copy your video link. This is the same link you can paste into your CCK video widget.

Vimeo Presets

You can apply default branding and viewer settings to all of your Vimeo videos. To be able to do this, you have to create a Vimeo preset. To create a preset, click on your profile icon, then select Edit Profile as shown below.

On the Settings screen, select Videos > Embed Presets > Add new preset.

Under player preferences, we recommend the exact settings as shown in the screenshot below. Untick all the same options as shown in the screenshot, and also always hide the portrait, title and byline.

The colour chosen will be shown on your video play buttons and video settings bar for your users - we recommend using your main brand colour here.

Under the custom logo, we recommend that you upload your logo and select the custom logo. After the video, we use a custom image with our logo - this is the final show that will be shown to your viewers on all of your videos. See the screenshot below as a reference.

You are able to add a link to your final uploaded image, which means anyone can click inside your video at the end when your image is shown and be redirected to the link.

Finally, we recommend that you apply your preset settings to any existing videos on your account, especially if you already have any videos on your account.

Default Upload Settings

To apply a preset to all of your uploaded videos, you need to change your upload defaults. Your upload defaults can be located under Settings > Videos as shown below.

Content rating default applies to the audiences able to watch your videos. Change this to match your uploaded video ratings. Who can watch your videos?

You are able to automatically upload your Webex or Zoom calls or recordings to your Vimeo account into a specific folder. Do this by selecting the folders under App Defaults.

Under Video preferences, set your chosen video preferences.

The next set of settings allows you to apply your Vimeo preset to all of your videos. You can also set the privacy of all uploaded videos. This setting needs to be Hide from Vimeo for your videos to be visible on your CCK website but hidden on Vimeo. We choose not to allow any comments on videos.

You need to select the Anywhere option under Where can your videos be embedded for your videos to be able to be embedded on your CCK website.

We recommend that you untick the two options under What can people do with your videos.

We do not apply a Creative Commons licence to our videos as our videos are not publicly available., but you might want to apply this if you do plan to make some of your Vimeo videos available publicly.

Free Vimeo Account Limitations

With a free Vimeo account, you are not able to set your video privacy settings to Hide Video, which means anyone on the internet will be able to find your video and watch your video. This is not ideal if you have an online course where your students will pay for access to your content.

The screenshot below shows the free Vimeo account privacy limitations.

With a free Vimeo account, you are also not able to change your Video Embed preset settings. These settings allow you to create branding and privacy presets that are automatically applied to your video when you upload a video.
