Getting the Most Out of ComposeAI

Here are some best practices to make ComposeAI work effectively!

ComposeAI is Courted's built-in AI outreach tool that helps you write personalized, one-to-one messages to agents — fast. Whether you're recruiting new talent or checking in with your current team, ComposeAI drafts emails and texts based on each agent's actual production data and your own brokerage's value propositions. The goal is simple: spend less time writing, and more time actually having conversations.

Set Up Your ComposeAI (Do This First)

Before you start generating messages, take a few minutes to configure your settings. This is what makes ComposeAI actually sound like you — and not a generic AI.

Head to Settings → ComposeAI (top right corner of the platform).

Set up Key Benefits These are your value props, or the reasons an agent would want to come work with you. ComposeAI pulls from these to pitch your brokerage in each message it generates.

  • Aim for 4–6 key benefits total: no need to select every category, just the ones relevant to your brokerage!

  • Choose from Courted's pre-loaded categories, or create your own custom one

  • Keep descriptions a few sentences or bullets. They don't need to be grammatically perfect, they just need to help teach the AI what you offer

Additional Context (PDF Upload) You can also upload up to 3 PDFs (under 2MB each) with brokerage information — things like your culture deck, compensation overview, or recruiting materials. This gives the AI even more context to work with.

Set up Custom Instructions These are saved prompts you can apply to shape the tone, style, or content of any message ComposeAI generates. If you find that ComposeAI sounds too much like AI and not enough like you, creating some custom instructions is the best way to teach out how to sound more like you. Doing this will save you time later on, so that every message you generate sounds closer to what you would actually type!

Make sure that your custom instructions are always succinct, clear, and directive. ComposeAI will perform better when it knows exactly what to say (or not to say). Be sure that both the title and details of the instruction are clear for the AI to follow!

ComposeAI Defaults This is where you tell the AI who you're typically recruiting, what to emphasize when you reach out to them, and how to make every message you send sound like you. Click Set Defaults and:

  • Choose your default outreach type (email, text, or phone script)

  • Match your key benefits to different agent personas — for example, you can highlight "Great for new agents" and "Agent support" for newer agents, but switch to "Luxury sales" resources for luxury producers – your value proposition changes depending on what type of agent you're speaking with, so your default settings should reflect that accordingly.

This way, when you open ComposeAI on any agent's profile, the AI already knows which value props to lead with based on who they are. We recommend sticking with 1-3 key benefits per agent persona, that way ComposeAI has a clear direction for how to build the message.

Lastly, for any custom instructions you've created, we recommend setting those as default if they apply to every message you're going to send out. For example, if you always want to keep your messages quippy and concise, you should set that as default!

Step 1: Generate Your Message

Now that you've set up ComposeAI for success, it's time to put it in action!

Once you're on an agent's profile, click the ComposeAI button. The AI will immediately draft a first message, automatically pulling in the agent's production data and any defaults you've set up.

Before you generate, spend 60 seconds on the agent's profile. Look at their:

  • Production stats (sales volume, listing efficiency, GCI)

  • Alerts & achievements (top 1% average sales price, recent closings, milestones)

  • Activity log (previous interactions or notes)

The more you know why you want to reach out to this specific agent, the better you can guide the message.

Step 2: Refine the Draft

ComposeAI's first draft is a strong starting point — but below is how to make it even better. One you adjust the message by taking any of the actions below, be sure to use the purple up arrow on the bottom righthand corner to have ComposeAI regenerate your message with the relevant changes applied.

Use References: In the ComposeAI window, click the + icon to reference specific sections of the agent's profile (production stats, comparisons, achievements). This pulls in the actual data so the AI can speak to it specifically rather than generically. If you want to mention their listing efficiency, for example, reference it — otherwise the message will say something vague like "I noticed you're efficient" instead of citing the real number.

Type Direct Instructions You can type anything directly into the chat — adjust the tone, add a specific ask, or tell it what not to do. For example:

  • "Tone down the humor a bit — I don't know this person well yet"

  • "Make sure to highlight her listing efficiency"

  • "End with an invitation to grab coffee at [local spot]"

Apply a Saved Custom Instruction: If you don't already have it set as default, select one of your saved custom instructions from the dropdown on the left to regenerate with that instruction applied.

Edit Directly in the Text Box Once you have a draft you like, you can edit it freehand right in the message box — tweak sentences, remove any formatting quirks, or adjust the closing.

Step 3: Teach the AI Your Preferences

Be sure to like or dislike drafts to help ComposeAI learn your style over time.

  • 👍 If you like a message, click the thumbs up — the AI will generate more messages in that tone

  • 👎 If you don't like one, click thumbs down — the AI learns what not to do

The more you interact with the feedback buttons, the less time you'll spend editing future drafts.

Best Practices for Great Results

Be specific and directive with your instructions. The more specific you are, the better the output. Instead of "make it professional," try "write in a polished, intelligent tone and end with one clear next step."

Reference agent data when you want it mentioned. If you want the AI to highlight a specific stat or achievement, always reference that section of the profile — don't just type it in text. This gives the AI the actual data it needs to say something meaningful.

Set up defaults that match your recruiting focus. If you recruit across different agent personas (new agents vs. top producers vs. luxury), set up separate defaults so the right value props are always front and center.

Use custom instructions for things you always want. Recurring preferences — your tone, a signature ask, a standing event invite — are perfect candidates for saved custom instructions. Set frequently-used ones as your default so they apply automatically.
