Granular Cost Insights, Unit Metrics and Custom Dimensions for Smarter Cloud Governance
Take control of your cloud spending! Our latest updates help you see exactly where your money goes, spot hidden waste, and make smarter budgeting choices. Simplify how you track shared costs and turn confusing bills into clear opportunities to save. Now, managing cloud expenses is easier—so you can spend less time worrying about costs and more time focusing on what matters.
Explore the details below.
🆕Group by Usage Type
First on our list of enhancements is the addition of Usage Type to our custom grouping in Octo’s cost group. This enables users to break down and analyze cloud spending based on specific resource usage patterns. Users can now view costs grouped by how services are consumed—whether it's compute hours, storage capacity, data transfer, or other measurable units—offering a more detailed and actionable perspective on cloud expenditure.
With this level of granularity, teams can quickly identify key cost drivers and usage trends across their infrastructure. It empowers users to group and compare spending based on usage characteristics, making it easier to uncover optimization opportunities, reduce waste, and make smarter budgeting decisions. This feature is a major step forward in providing users with deeper visibility and control over their cloud costs.

🆕Unit Cost V6
Introducing Unit Metrics for Enhanced Cost Visibility
Next is the addition of the Unit Metrics feature to help users gain deeper insight into the cost drivers behind each unit contributing to a product. This feature provides clear, actionable metrics that allow users to understand how individual units and shared resources impact overall product costs.
With improved visibility into unit-level cost contributions, users are better equipped to make informed decisions—such as optimizing resource allocation, refining product structures, or adjusting pricing strategies.
By surfacing this data, Unit Metrics supports more accurate cost analysis, enhances operational planning, and empowers users to drive smarter, data-driven business outcomes.

Renaming Units to Cost Dimensions for Improved Clarity
Building on the enhancement of Unit Metric Version 6, we’ve also renamed Units to Custom Dimensions to provide greater clarity and better reflect their role in organizing and analyzing shared resource costs. While the underlying functionality remains the same, this change helps users understand the purpose of these groupings—to break down shared resources into meaningful, business-relevant dimensions within each cost group.
All previously released features—including auto suggested dimensions, merging of suggested and existing dimensions, and global access outside of cost group management—continue to be available under this new name.
This update supports our ongoing goal of making cost structures more intuitive and actionable, empowering users to analyze cost drivers more effectively and make informed business decisions.
