Overview
Once Coworker creates an artifact in Canvas, it isn't locked in place. You can edit, update, and iterate on any artifact directly — either by continuing the conversation or by editing inline in the Canvas panel.
Editing via chat
The simplest way to edit an artifact is to keep talking. After Coworker creates something, just describe what you want to change in your next message:
"Update the title to 'Q2 2026 Pipeline Review'"
"Add a slide about customer churn at the end"
"Change the color scheme to match our brand"
"Fix the chart on slide 3 to use the correct data"
Coworker will apply your changes to the existing artifact — it won't create a new one from scratch unless you ask it to.
Editing directly in Canvas
The Canvas panel has a View / Edit toggle in the header for Build artifacts. Switch to Edit mode to interact with the artifact directly:
Text edits: Hover over or double-click on a text element to edit it inline.
Structural changes: For larger structural changes (adding sections, reordering slides, changing layouts), continue via chat for best results.
Note: Text Canvas outputs made in Chat mode are directly editable.
The canvas auto-saves as you work, so your changes are preserved without a manual save step.
Canvas panel controls
The canvas header includes several controls to help you work with your artifact:
View / Edit toggle — Switch between read-only and editable modes
Refresh — Reload the artifact (useful for refreshable dashboards)
Fullscreen — Expand the artifact to fill the screen
Expand / Download — Open in a new tab or download the artifact
Share — Share with teammates (see the Sharing article for details)
Three-dot menu — Additional options including export formats
Export and download options
Most artifact types support export. Options vary by type:
Slide Deck / Brochure: Export as PNG, JPEG, PDF, or print
Document: Export to Google Doc (charts and diagrams are rasterized automatically)
Canvas / Dashboard: Download as PDF or text file
Files (e.g., spreadsheets): Export to Google Sheets or download directly from the Files tab
Tips for effective iteration
Be specific in your follow-up requests — "change the bar chart on slide 2 to a line chart" works better than "update the chart."
For large artifacts (decks with many slides), reference the specific slide or section you want changed.
If something looks wrong, describe it plainly: "The text on the cover is cut off" or "The table is missing the last two rows." Coworker will investigate and fix it.
You can ask Coworker to start over: "Rebuild this from scratch with a different structure" — it will replace the existing artifact.
