Construction contract law changes regularly — lien deadlines, required notices, disclosure wording, and cancellation rights all get revised by state legislatures. Construction Contract Writer builds your contracts from that legal data, so keeping it current is what keeps your contracts compliant.
Your Contract Writer license includes a set term of data updates. After that, the program still works, but it stops receiving new legal data and will prompt you to renew.
How to renew
Go to the 12-month update subscription page.
Add it to your cart and check out.
Once your order is processed, run the Craftsman Software Update program (see below) to pull down the current data.
Important: The renewal extends an existing license — it doesn't create one. You need an active state-specific or All States Contract Writer license before a renewal will apply. If you don't have one yet, start with a Contract Writer license instead.
Installing your updates
Contract Writer is a Windows program, and updates are installed through the Craftsman Software Update utility:
Close Construction Contract Writer.
Open the Windows Start menu and find Craftsman Software Update.
Run it and let it finish. It will check for both program updates and new legal data.
Reopen Contract Writer.
Closing the program first matters — if Contract Writer is running, the updater can't replace the files it's using. If you see a "file being updated is currently in use" message, see this article.
