When you buy an item in a shopping mall, you'll receive a receipt as proof of your purchase. Like a physical receipt, a transaction hash (tx hash or txn hash) is a unique identifier that validates your transaction on the blockchain. It's the proof that your transaction was added to the blockchain.

Key features of a transaction hash

1. It's unique

No two hash IDs are the same. Therefore, no two transactions on the blockchain can have the same hash ID. As a result, hash IDs are effective for tracking transactions on the blockchain.

2. Immutability

Hashing ensures that no one can alter your transactions. It protects your transaction integrity, ensuring that only authorized parties can view the content of your activities on the blockchain.

3. Traceability

Would you like to track your crypto funds? The hashing ID is what you need. Remember that every transaction has a distinct identifier, meaning the detail of each hash is unique. As a result, you can use the transaction ID to monitor the movement of your funds on the blockchain.

A transaction hash can help you check for the following on the blockchain:

  • The confirmation status of the transaction on the blockchain

  • Check the sending and receiving address, amount sent, date and time, and network fees.

The block explorer: The website for monitoring crypto transactions

The block explorer is a website for viewing activities on the blockchain. The block explorer lets you input the transaction hash for real-time monitoring.

However, to track a cryptocurrency asset, you must use the block explorer for the blockchain the crypto is built on. For instance, Bitcoin (BTC) operates on its blockchain, so you must use a Bitcoin block explorer to monitor the transactions.

Similarly, Ethereum (ETH) is built on the Ethereum blockchain, and you must use an Ethereum block explorer for progress monitoring.

The table below shows the explorers for different cryptocurrencies on Crane:

How to track USDT on Crane

As of the time of writing, transaction hash isn't visible on the Crane app, largely because you use Crane to receive—not send—crypto payments. Therefore, if your payment is pending, contact the business partner who initiated the payments for the hash.

Alternatively, contact support@usecrane.co for assistance.

Despite the unavailability of transaction hashes on the Crane app, you can still track incoming payments in crypto using your wallet address on the block explorer.

When you use a wallet address to monitor transactions, it'll show you the history of every transaction, including hashes. Then copy the ID of the specific transaction you want to monitor on the block explorer for more details.

In contrast, the hash ID will show the status of a particular transaction. That's the difference between tracking with wallet ID and hash on the blockchain.

To track USDT on Crane with your wallet address, follow these guidelines:

Step 1: Copy your wallet address from the Crane app

Ensure you copy the wallet address of the network you sent to your client. For instance, if you send the wallet address of USDT on the BEP 20 network, you should copy the same for tracking on the block explorer.

Note: You can use the transaction hash (if you have it) instead of the wallet address to track USDT (and other crypto) transactions. Crane DOESN'T control your transactions on the blockchain.

a. To copy the wallet address, go to "Wallet on the Crane app homepage:

b. Select the crypto asset. I selected Tether (aka USDT) because that’s the crypto we want to track.

c. Click on Receive:

d. Select the wallet address of the USDT (ensure it’s the same one you sent to your business partner). For this tutorial, we selected the BEP 20 network:

Summarily, follow this process to copy your wallet address on Crane: go to wallet > select crypto asset > Receive > copy the wallet ID.

Alternatively, you can copy your wallet ID like this: click on Receive on the homepage > select regular crypto deposit (or Bank Direct if that's the option you selected to receive the money) > choose crypto asset > copy wallet address.

Step 2: Input the wallet address on block explorer

a. Go to Bscscan and enter the wallet address on the search bar:

b. Go to Token Transfers (BEP-20) to view your transaction history, current transaction status, and translation hash. Here's a sample:

How to track incoming BTC payments on the block explorer

You can also monitor incoming BTC payments through the block explorer. Follow the steps below to do this.

Step 1: Copy your BTC wallet address

Go to wallet > select the crypto asset (e.g., BTC) > Receive > copy the wallet ID.

Step 2: Paste the wallet address on the Blockchair block explorer

Once you do, it’ll show your transaction activities, including their hashes. To view a specific transaction status, copy the hash and paste it on the block explorer, and it’ll show real-time updates.

How to track incoming payments in TRON on the block explorer

Like USDT and BTC, you can view the status of a payment you received in TRON on the block explorer.

To do this, copy your wallet address > paste it on the Tron Explorer. The images below show the results of a transaction I checked on block explorer using the wallet address.

FAQs about transaction hash on Crane

1. Can I generate a transaction hash on Crane?

You can't send cryptocurrencies on Crane. Therefore, we don't generate transaction hashes on the app. The crypto sender is primarily responsible for generating the has ID.

That said, you can generate the transaction hash using the block explorer of the specific cryptocurrency. Alternatively, contact support@usecrane.co for guidance.

2. Is it safe to share my transaction hash?

The hash keeps transaction details, including the money involved and wallet addresses. If you're uncomfortable sharing these details, you should be wary about sharing your transaction hash.

3. What does txn mean in crypto?

“txn” is an abbreviation for transaction. “txn hash” or “tx hash” means transaction hash, the unique identifier number on the blockchain.
