What is Insights in DecipherAg?

Updated over a week ago

The Insights Screen is only available to DecipherAg Plus users.

It provides end-of-season reports that allow users to obtain a graphical overview of their farm paddocks with insights drawn from a variety of sources. These results can be compared across different growing seasons.

The Insights Screen can be a valuable tool in assessing the effectiveness of strategies that have been used, according to how they are reflected in the recorded yield. This in turn can aid in decision-making for the coming season.

There are four tabs available in the Insights Screen. They are:

To be able to use the tabs of the Insights Screen, it is necessary to have key data entered that is used to calculate the results that are displayed. Each tab within the Insights Screen requires different data, although there is a lot of overlap between the tabs and the data they require.

This table gives an overview of the data required across the different tabs within the Insights Screen:

The Crop, Fertiliser Application and Yield data are all drawn from information entered though the Manage Plans and Actuals feature within DecipherAg.

Read more on those here:

The details used in the Insights Screen are the approved Actuals values; from this we obtain the crop within each paddock, the types and amounts of nutrients applied, and the yield for the crop.

When approving the actuals from the plans, it is important to make any adjustments for variations from the plans compared to the actual results over the season. A greater level of detail included in actuals will enable more useful information to be obtained.

Fertiliser Cost and Grain Price are entered directly from within the Review Screen. The values entered here can be saved for future reference if desired, or sensitive financial details can be preserved by not saving these figures and choosing to re-enter them if this option is used again at another time.

For users already familiar with DecipherAg, the same conventions are followed within the Insights Screen, so it should be relatively easy to navigate and interpret the results.

Features Common to all Insights Screen Tabs

Accessing the Insights Screen

Select 'Review' - Select 'Insights'

Information buttons

As you look at the items on screen, you will see information buttons that will display more detail about that particular tab or item. In some cases, the text displayed will include a link to more in-depth information.

Opacity

Increase or decrease the opacity with the slider to see less or more of the map detail underneath. In addition to the base map detail, this can allow viewing of other map layers such as satellite imagery and yield.

Adjustable Slider

To enhance the contrast between paddock values, you can adjust the colour scale with the slider. As you review different seasons, the slider values will remain constant so that you can compare results over time.

Filtering

The filter options can be used to limit the information displayed to particular farms, or only specific crops.

Toolbox

In the top right of the screen is a toolbox that displays graphical information for whichever Review tab is being used. Along the bottom axis the toolbox shows the various crop types for which data is displayed, and each dot represents an individual paddock’s data.

Hovering over a dot will show the paddock name it relates to, and the values for that paddock.

For ease of viewing, you can expand/collapse the Toolbox by clicking the double-ended arrows on the top right corner of the box.

Tool Tips

As you hover over a paddock, a tool tip will be displayed showing more detailed data for that particular paddock. The details displayed will be specific according to the Review Screen tab that is being used, and in some cases may have additional tabs of data available within the Tool Tip.
