Depending on the layout you select, the Storiez News Desk provides different 'Segments' to add your stories to, but as an admin or owner in Storiez, you can customize these segments to your own needs.
Story Segments are collapsable sections in the News Desk layout, allowing you to create stories directly under a certain segment, as well as to drag&drop stories from one segment to another, and between different days.
When a story is opened, the details of the story also allow you to change the segment as needed.
How can I use the Story Segments?
When creating a new story, a default segment can be assigned to it. This can be configured in the default Story Properties via the settings.
In most cases, however, a new story will be created in the News Desk or Story Tray, and this immediately under the desired segment. To do so, simply use the '+' buttons shown for each of the segments in your News Desk.
Which Story Segments could I use?
You and your team can decide which segments to create what each of them means for you, but we have our own suggestions to help you get started.
Breaking
A 'Breaking' segment is ideal to add stories for events that have just happened, or are currently occurring or developing.
Actual
The ‘Actual’ segment is for those stories that are ongoing, the stories happening ‘at the moment’. These can be stories that have just happened or are currently developing, or they can be stories linked to events happening on multiple days or weeks, such as e.g. the Olympics, US elections,.. A 'Pitch', for example, can be promoted to become an 'Actual' story.
Events
An 'Events' segment could be used in a similar way as the 'Pitch' priority, but stories under 'Events' usually have at least one or more 'Activities' added to them in the story properties. These activities are most often events that would otherwise be added to your calendar, meaning these stories would be about scheduled events.
Pitch
'Pitches' are potential stories, stories that are not yet confirmed that they will be handled or scheduled. Once it is decided that a pitched story will go through, ideally it would be moved to one of the other segments.
Archived
The 'Archived' segment is an ideal place to move stories to that are no longer needed, but that you do not want to delete or drop.
You could also create a 'Dropped' segment to move stories to that you decided to not continue with.
A story can evolve and move between Story Segments
Stories can start under a certain segment and move to another one as the story develops and/or as the result of an editorial decision;
A story can start as a 'pitch' or 'event', but would evolve into an 'actual' or 'breaking' as time goes on and more information about the story is added
When the story is done/over, it can be 'archived', or should the story be stopped prematurely, it can be 'dropped'
How can I create Story Segments?
If you are an 'Owner' or 'Administrator' of your Storiez organization, then you have access to Storiez’ settings menu. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of Storiez, then go to 'Segments.
Click '+Add segment' to create a new segment or click the name of one of the segments to modify an existing segment.
A segment can be given a name and a color, and you can decide whether or not you want to display the thumbnail (also called 'posterframe') for stories in that specific segment.
You can change the order of the segments by grabbing the six dots in front of a segment and dragging the segment up or down.
Finally, a segment can be deleted by hovering over its name, then clicking the trash icon on the right.
