Learn about Story Properties and how they can help you customize the fields needed to collect all information for your stories

Updated over 3 months ago

When creating stories and sub stories, different types of information are collected, so different fields ('properties') are needed to enter all this information.

Storiez lets you start with a set of default properties, to which certain changes can be applied, but you can also custom create your own story properties as needed, in order to adapt Storiez to your specific needs.

To view or edit the default story properties, as well as to add new ones, start by going to the settings menu via the gear icon in the top right corner. Next, select 'Story Properties' from the menu on the left.

Default properties

At the top of the screen, the default story properties will be listed, as shown in the example image below.

The default properties are fixed, meaning that you cannot remove any of them, and the 'title', 'name', 'placeholder' and 'type' of these properties cannot be modified.

You can, however, modify the default value for each of these properties. If, for example, you want newly created stories to have a default priority of 'Actual' instead of 'Pitch', you could make that change here in the settings. Similar conditions apply for the other default properties.

Custom properties

With the default story properties already covering some of the most important information you might need for a story, extra properties might still be needed. This simply depends on the type of information you and your team want to collect.

To add extra properties, click either the '+ Add' button just below the default properties, or use the blue '+ Add property' button in the top right corner.

Next, enter the 'Title' for your new property, after which the 'name' and 'placeholder' fields will be filled automatically.

  • Title: is the title of the field as it will appear in your (sub) story

  • Name: is the database name of the field, which won't necessarily be visible other than in the settings menu

  • Placeholder: is the text that will be visible in the field as long as it is empty, helping you and your team understand what information this field is for

Finally, select which type of information this field will hold. You can make the field hold simple text, html text (with text formatting), numbers, checkmarks, statuses, (multi) selects, media, dates, and more.
