Market Data and Performance – Onyx

Updated this week

Onyx connects through Rithmic for all real-time market data and order routing. Performance is directly impacted by your gateway selection and internet quality.

Choose the Right Gateway

For the best experience, always connect to the Rithmic gateway closest to your physical location. This reduces:

  • Data latency

  • Order delays

  • Chart lag

  • Disconnects

If you are unsure which gateway to use, feel free to choose the Chicago server.

Data Agreements

Before accessing market data, you must accept the required Rithmic agreements, including:

  • CME data agreement

  • Non-Professional certification

  • Exchange terms of use

These are mandatory to enable real-time data.

Performance Tips

For optimal performance and to minimize execution latency, we recommend the following setup:

  • Use a Wired Connection: Always prefer an Ethernet cable over Wi-Fi. This significantly reduces "jitter" and latency spikes that can cause chart lag.

  • Hardware Choice: Use a modern PC or laptop with an updated processor and sufficient RAM to handle high-frequency data streaming.

  • Clear Background Apps: Close unnecessary browser tabs and background applications (like streaming services or heavy downloads) that compete for your bandwidth and CPU.

  • Avoid Unstable Wi-Fi: Public or shared Wi-Fi connections are prone to signal drops. If you must use Wi-Fi, ensure you are close to the router and on a private, high-speed frequency ($5$ GHz).

  • Browser Optimization: Running Onyx in an Incognito/Private window can help by bypassing cached data and extensions that might slow down the platform.
