How a conversation's script is chosen

The exact script selection rule, and how to prioritize yours.

When a conversation reaches the moment of sale and no script has been assigned to it yet, Desirely picks one automatically. The rule is simple and deterministic.

The selection rule

Desirely takes the most recently created script among the model's scripts that meet all of these conditions:

  1. the script is active;

  2. it has not already been used in this conversation (a given script is only sold once per fan);

  3. its media are available on the conversation's platform (a script whose media only exist on Reveal will not be offered on MYM);

  4. none of its media have already been seen by this fan: a free media counts as seen as soon as it is sent (including by hand outside Desirely), a paid media only once unlocked. If one of the script's media has already been seen by the fan, the script is set aside for this conversation and Desirely moves on to the next one. The same content is never shown twice to the same person.

If no eligible script remains, the Out of script alert fires (see "Out of script: what to do").

The script stays assigned

Once chosen, the script stays attached to the conversation until it runs its course: all its steps sold, or the sale abandoned. Then, after the cooldown period, a new script will be chosen by the same rule the next time the fan's desire rises.

How to prioritize a script

Since the most recent one wins, you steer priority through the creation date:

  • to push a scenario to the front, create it (or duplicate it: the copy becomes the most recent);

  • to set a script aside without deleting it, switch it to Inactive (it also leaves the conversations where it was running);

  • your newest content is therefore naturally offered first to the fans who have not received it yet.

Duplicating a script: what it changes (and what it does not)

A duplicated script is a fully independent script: it starts from its first step. It never "resumes" the original script's progression.

Natural resuming already exists, without duplication: as long as the sale is in progress, the script stays assigned to the conversation and the AI picks up exactly where it left off, even if the fan comes back later. Only when the sale is abandoned (the fan dropped off and the cooldown kicks in) is the script released: it will no longer be offered on that conversation.

The rule to know: exclusion works media by media, based on the media the fan has already seen. A free media is seen as soon as it is sent; a paid media is only seen once unlocked. A paid media that was sent but never unlocked has therefore never been seen: it can be offered again, including by another script. However, if a single media already seen by this fan appears in a script (duplicated or not), that entire script is set aside for that conversation.

To re-engage a fan who left a script unfinished: duplicate the script and replace the free step(s) (they were necessarily seen). The paid steps can stay, even the one the fan received without unlocking: never unlocked, therefore never seen, it can be offered again. As long as the duplicate contains no media this fan has already seen, it will be selected normally and can play out the rest of the scenario.

Frequently asked questions

Can the same script be used in several conversations? Yes, without limit. The "once only" restriction applies per conversation, not globally.

Can I pick a conversation's script by hand? Selection is automatic, following the rule above. To steer the choice, play with activation and creation date (duplication).

What happens if I edit a script while it is in use? Conversations using it continue with its updated steps. Deactivating it, however, removes it from every conversation where it was running.
