Fire Studio is licensed on a per computer basis. Each computer running Fire Studio will need a license. You can purchase any number of licenses. As your needs change, you may add additional licenses. The first time you run Fire Studio, you will need to activate the software online. This will only need to be done once. Licenses can be managed through your Customer Portal, however, activation and deactivation must be done on the local computer. You cannot activate or deactivate the software in the Customer Portal.
License Transfer Guidelines
Fire Studio licenses are tied to the computer on which they are activated. However, licenses can be moved between computers. To transfer a license:
Deactivate the existing license on the current computer.
Install Fire Studio on the new computer.
Reactivate the license using the same license ID.
If necessary, you can subsequently deactivate and transfer the license back to the original machine. It is important to note that only one computer can be active with a single license at any given time. Frequent multi-user sharing through transfer is not practical, but occasional license moves (e.g., shifting between a desktop and a training room PC temporarily) are supported.
Limitations on Multi-User Licensing
Fire Studio is not designed to function as server-, network-, or web-based software. As such, each license is installed and activated on a singular computer, enabling only those operating that specific machine to use it. This licensing structure does not support simultaneous access by multiple users in a shared or networked environment.
Recommendations for Teams and Multi-User Scenarios
For team collaborations or multi-user scenarios, Digital Combustion recommends the following approaches:
Instructor Edition Licenses: Teams can purchase additional Instructor licenses to cover multiple machines.
Player Edition for Playback: Provide users who only require playback functionality with the more cost-effective Player Edition of Fire Studio. The Player Edition is available for both Windows/Mac and iPad platforms.
