Merchant 'Holds'

Why am I seeing a $1 or $2 charge from the merchant after I've made a purchase with my Dosh Visa Debit Card?

Often, merchants apply a 'Hold' amount to check the validity of the card being used, and to make sure there is an existing balance. This can be the case when you are using a new card, like your Dosh Visa Debit Card, for the first time.

When you make a purchase with your Dosh Visa Debit Card, you may see a nominal amount, usually $1 or $2, show in your Dosh transaction list in the app.

As an example, you purchase a Lotto ticket online using your Dosh Visa Debit Card details. In addition to the amount of your Lotto purchase, MyLotto will perform a card validity check by taking a 'Hold' amount of $1.

Usually, card transactions settle overnight (moving the transaction status from 'Hold' to 'Completed'). Validity checks are different in that they will not settle.

After 10 days, the Hold will drop off, and the $1 will be reversed back into your Dosh account. This will show in your transaction list with the amount of $1 and the transaction type 'Payment Reversal'.
