If you find a job you want to apply for outside of EarnBetter, you can still use EarnBetter to customize a resume + cover letter for that specific job (for free). For example: maybe you find a job on LinkedIn or Indeed, but you want to use EarnBetter to tailor your resume and cover letter...well, the good news is that you can!
In order to bring an external job to EarnBetter, follow the steps below!
Step 1: Go to "Documents" Tab
Once you're signed in to EarnBetter, go to your "Documents" tab. On desktop, this lives in the top left corner of your screen. On mobile, you'll access "Documents" through the menu in the top right.
Step 2: Click "Resume" under "Want to generate a new document?"
Once you're in "Documents", you can click the "Resume" button to generate a new one.
Step 3: Choose a resume to use as the base
What do you want to use as the base of this resume? You will have two options.
Do you want to use a resume that you've already created using EarnBetter? If so, click the first box.
This is what we recommend and this is the path we will highlight in this article.
If you want to use a resume that you've created on your own (or start from scratch), you can click the second box.
If you want to go down that path and need support, check out this article starting at step 2.
Step 4: Enter the job title
Type in the name of the job title that you'll be using this resume for. We will tailor your resume based on the types of jobs you'll be applying for.
Step 5: Choose "Yes" for "Do you have a job description for this role?"
This help article is centered around customizing a resume for a specific job, so you will say "yes" to having a job description that you want to use to customize your resume.
For example: if you find a job on another job board but you want to use EarnBetter to customize a resume for that job, this is the path you'll take. You will then be prompted to copy & paste information from that specific job description (which our AI tool will use to tailor your resume).
If you want to make a new base resume for a job type (not a specific job), you would click "No". Some people want various base resumes for different job families such as: customer service, operations, account management, etc.
If you click "no" here, you'll go through a slightly different flow than what we've outlined below. If you want to learn more about creating a new base resume, here is a link to that help article.
Step 6: Select a base resume
Now select which of your EarnBetter resumes you want to use as the base for your new resume. Choose the resume that best matches the type of jobs you'll be applying for with this new resume.
Step 7: Add keywords & skills
This step doesn't always happen, but if there are certain keywords or skills that our AI thinks you should add to your resume, you'll be prompted at this stage. Sometimes, your resume is already in great shape with the right keywords, so you might bypass this step.
Step 8: Now you have a new resume!
Next, you'll see a preview of your new resume.
If you want to make any edits to your resume, you can hit "Content" or "Design" in the top right of your resume. There is another article dedicated to updating + editing your EarnBetter resume, so visit this help page for more details on the full suite of options.
You can download by hitting "download" in the top right corner.
If you hit "finish", you'll be taken back to your documents and this resume will be saved in your "custom docs" section - you can reference back to it anytime.
If you have any issues downloading your resume, please see this article.
The most common download issue is on mobile devices. If you are on a mobile device, ensure you are accessing EarnBetter directly via your browser (instead of inside of another application like Gmail, TikTok or Instagram).
If you are inside of another application, please navigate directly to https://earnbetter.com from a new browser, login and you should be able to download your file. The documents will be saved to whatever your default location is set up on your mobile device. Many third party applications like TikTok or Instagram remove the ability to download.
