Summary
Hub and spoke lets one kitchen produce for several shops: spokes plan their daily quantities, the hub makes the combined total, and the finished items are transferred back to each spoke. A site can be linked to one hub only, and a site can never be both a hub and a spoke.
Setting up a Hub or Spoke
To setup a site as either a Hub or Spoke you should go to Settings > Production > Hub & Spoke.
The Linked sites section is where assign whether a site is a Spoke or a Hub.
Under Spoke site, choose the site that will request production.
Under Hub site, choose the site that will make it.
Select Link sites.
The new relationship appears in the list below as "Spoke Site -> Hub Site". Use Filter by site to see a particular sites setup.
⚠️ A site can be linked to one hub, and can never be both a hub and a spoke. If a site is already a hub, it can't also be set up as a spoke, and vice versa.
Changing a spoke's hub
To move a spoke to a different hub, select the arrow icon on its row. The Change hub panel opens and explains what will happen: open plans from today onward move to the new hub and follow its cutoff schedule, while days that are already locked or being dispatched stay with the current hub and complete as normal.
Choose the New hub site and select Change hub.
Unlinking a spoke
To remove a link entirely, select the bin icon on the row. You'll be asked to confirm - unlinking means the spoke stops requesting production from that hub and goes back to standalone planning. Select Unlink to confirm.
Setting the cutoff schedule
The cutoff is the time a spoke's plan locks for a given production date. Before the cutoff a spoke can edit and re-save freely; after it, any change needs the hub's approval. Select Cutoff schedule on a linked row to open the Cutoff schedule panel for that hub.
Two sets of cutoffs are configured separately:
Fixed production
You can set a Default cutoff time which will apply as the default cutoff time for everyday unless an alternative cutoff time is set. This default cutoff time will apply to every Spoke linked to the Hub unless alternative cutoffs are set.
To set alternative cutoff times use the toggle to enable a cutoff for that day. Use the dropdown to select the time of the cutoff and the lead-day (e.g. day before, 1 day before, 2 days before etc).
Variable production
Variable production is intraday, so its cutoff is same-day and time-only - there are no lead days. Each row has a toggle and a time only.
How the rows combine:
Setting | Explainer |
Default | Applies to every day that doesn't have its own row enabled. |
A specific day (e.g. Sunday) | Overrides the default for that day only, when its toggle is on. |
No default and no specific days set | Spoke plans never lock - there is no cutoff. |
Cutoff times are shown in the hub's local timezone. Select Save schedule when you're done, or Cancel to close without changing anything. A Cutoff schedule saved confirmation appears.
Choosing what productions the hub makes
When you link a site as a spoke, every one of its productions is set to be made by the hub. You can leave it that way, or switch individual productions back to be made at the site - so a spoke can request most of its productions from the hub while still making some itself.
This is set in the site's own production settings, not on the Hub & spoke tab.
Go to Settings > Sites, select the site, and choose Production settings. If the site has been setup as a Spoke you will see a "Spoke of [hub]" pill.
Within the Enabled productions section each production run has a made at dropdown. To set it so a site makes its own production just change this to This site rather than the Hub.
💡 The Made at dropdown is only available on productions the Hub is enabled to do. For example, if a Hub only does Production 1 and 2 while you can still enabled Production 3 for the site, you cannot assign it to the Hub and there will be no Made at dropdown.
Setting a Hub or Spokes Range & Tiers
A product appears in a spoke's Production Planner only if it's in both the spoke's range and the hub's range. Each range is set independently, so both have to include the item for the spoke to plan it.
If a spoke needs an item that isn't showing on its planner, check it is in both the Hub & Spokes assigned range/tier for the day.
Find out more about Tiers & Ranges here.
⚠️ A product only reaches a spoke's planner when it's in both the spoke's range and the hub's range. If an expected item is missing, one of the two ranges is the usual cause.
