How can you make the process of tracking student performance simple and clear? In this article, we will explore how the Statistics feature on Edvibe can help you stay informed about your students' successes and challenges. For every correct answer, your students will earn points, and their total score will be visible in the “Results” section.
Adapt the statistics to your teaching style: you can set the number of points for correct answers or based on the number of mistakes, specify which exercises will be included in the statistics, and designate into which category (e.g., “Grammar”, “Vocabulary”, “Listening”, etc.) the earned points will be allocated. For group classes and online courses, you can enable a leaderboard to stimulate students' competitive spirit.
Which Exercises Are Included in the Statistics?
The lesson statistics only include those exercises for which point allocation has been set up. In the virtual classroom, such exercises are marked with a “star” icon. Clicking on this icon will open a popup with details about the completion of this exercise.
How to Set Up Point Allocation for Exercises?
In the exercise creation and editing mode, select the desired template and go to the “Statistics” tab. Activate the “Include in Statistics” switch and choose an appropriate method of assigning score.
Assigning score
1. For Answers
Set the number of points a student will receive for each correct answer. Note that points will only be awarded if the correct answer is given on the first attempt.
2. For mistakes
Specify how many points a student will earn depending on the number of mistakes made in the exercise. You can add options and specify a range of mistakes.
3. Manually
This option is ideal for exercises where auto-checking is not possible, such as writing or speaking exercises. For this option, you need to specify the maximum number of points that can be earned. The teacher manually checks such exercises and awards points in the virtual classroom.
Statistics Categories
In addition to the method of point allocation, you can choose the category into which points for a particular exercise will be awarded. By default, all points go to the General Score category.
If you don't teach languages or didn't find a suitable category in the list, you can choose one of the “letter” categories (A, B, C, or D) and explain their meaning in the comments to the statistics.
Don't forget to save the exercise for the changes to take effect.
Comments on Statistics
For each lesson, you can add a comment to the statistics (e.g., to explain the meaning of categories or the logic of point allocation). To add a comment, go to the “Results” section in the lesson preview and editing mode and click the “Add Comment to Statistics” button.
Note that the comment is attached to the lesson, and students will be able to view it in all classes where this lesson is added.
How to Enable Statistics and Leaderboard in classes
Statistics and leaderboard need to be turned on or off for each class separately. To enable them, open the settings of the desired class and activate the corresponding switches. Here, you can also configure how the ranking will appear to your students.
The same way, you can activate the statistics in the settings of a specific online course.
How Does a Student Earn Points?
A student earns points by completing exercises that are included in the statistics. Points “For Answers” and “For mistakes” are automatically awarded as exercises are completed and auto-checking is triggered (except for those answers where auto-checking is not set up - points for them are awarded after the teacher's check).
Points for templates, where manual allocation is set up, are credited after the teacher's check. The “Assign a score” button is located under each such template.
Viewing Statistics and Leaderboards
Viewing Specific Lesson Statistics
Both the teacher and students can view the earned points at any time by going to the “Results” tab in the virtual classroom. In group classes, the student ranking will also be located here if it is enabled. To view the statistics of a specific student in a group class, select them in the upper left corner or click on their name in the ranking. Note that students' email addresses will be visible only to you.
Viewing Overall Statistics
To view a student's or group's statistics for all time:
Open the profile of the desired student or group
Select the tab of the desired class and within it - the “Statistics” tab
For viewing overall online course statistics, open the profile of the desired online course and go to the “Statistics” tab.
Note that you can download the statistics data for selected classes or online courses in table format by clicking the “Download Data” button.
