School student Statistic and Leaderboard

With student statistics, you can track your students' performance, analyze the results of work, and make decisions regarding their progress.

Updated over a year ago

Here's how it works: students earn points for their answers. You can configure the statistics according to your preferences: assigning higher points for correct answers to more challenging tasks, determining which exercises are scored and which are not. To provide additional motivation for students within groups, you can incorporate a leaderboard displaying each student's scores.

Enabling Statistics in School Settings

The toggles for enabling/disabling statistics and leaderboards in individual and group classes (i.e. global toggles) can only be activated by the main administrator. Teachers and school staff do not yet have this capability.

The global toggle in the school settings doesn't affect the local toggles in Online Courses. If it's turned off, administrators and staff can still activate the local statistics toggle within Online courses.

Warning! Please activate the "Show statistics in lesson results" toggle first; only after that will you be able to switch the "Show leaderboard in lesson results" toggle to the active position.

"Show statistics in Lesson Results" Toggle

  1. If the global "Statistics in Lesson Results" toggle is enabled in the school settings, the main school administrator and school staff administrators can freely enable/disable the local statistics toggle in classes and Online courses.

  2. If the global statistics toggle is turned off, the local statistics toggle becomes inactive for the main administrator and staff, and statistics are not displayed.

  3. The local settings of the statistics toggle in each class and online course are preserved regardless of the position of the global statistics toggle in the school settings.

"Show leaderboard in lesson results" Toggle

  1. The ranking toggle can be activated only if the statistics toggle is enabled. There is no Leaderboard toggle in individual classes.

  2. If the global "Leaderboard" toggle is enabled in the school settings, the main school administrator and school staff administrators can freely enable/disable the local leaderboard toggle in classes.

  3. If the global "Leaderboard" toggle is turned off, the local toggle becomes inactive for the main administrator and staff, and the leaderboard is not displayed in group classes.

  4. The local settings of the leaderboard toggle in group classes are preserved regardless of the position of the global toggle in the school settings.

Activating Statistics in an Individual Class

Only the main administrator and administrator staff can activate the statistics toggle in an individual class. Student statistics are enabled separately for each class and online course. This can be done in two ways.

  1. To enable statistics, go to the student's profile and open the class settings.

Then activate the corresponding toggle.

Since there's only one student in an individual class, the leaderboard toggle is not available for it.

2. Go to the student's profile and click on the "Statistics" tab.

Then activate it, as in the previous method.

Activating Statistics in a Group Class

Both toggles—statistics and leaderboard—are available in a group class.

You can activate them in two ways:

  1. In the school settings, go to Lessons - Groups, select the relevant group. Then navigate to the profile of any student in the group and click on the "Settings" button.

2. Go to the profile of a student in the group, click on the "Statistics" tab, and activate it.

Activating Statistics in Online courses

The main administrator and administrator staff can activate statistics in online courses. Course curators do not have access to this setting.

Please note that the global statistics and ranking toggles do not affect online courses.

To activate statistics and ranking in online courses, go to the Online Courses section, select the relevant course, click on the gear icon (Course Settings), go to the "Additional" tab, and switch the toggle to the active position.

How to Configure Point Allocation for Exercises?

While creating or editing exercises, select the appropriate template and navigate to the "Statistics" tab. Activate the "Include in Statistics" toggle and choose the suitable method for point allocation.

Let's take a detailed look at the methods for allocating points in exercises. There are three options for evaluating a student's knowledge.

  1. For answers

Set the number of points that a student will receive for each correct answer. Please note that points will be awarded only if the correct answer is provided on the first attempt.

2. For mistakes

Specify the number of points the student will accumulate based on the number of mistakes made in the exercise. You can add variations and indicate a range of mistakes.

3. Manually

This option is ideal for exercises where auto-checking is not feasible, such as writing or speaking exercises. For this method, you need to specify the maximum number of points that can be achieved. The teacher manually assesses such exercises and assigns points in the virtual classroom.

Category Section

In addition to the point allocation method, you can choose which category the points for a specific exercise will be assigned to. By default, all points go to the Universal category. If you don't teach languages or haven't found categories suitable for your needs in the list, you can select one of the "letter" categories (A, B, C, or D) and provide an explanation of their meaning in the statistics comments.

Which Exercises are Included in the Statistics?

In the lesson statistics, only exercises for which point allocation has been configured are taken into account. In the virtual classroom, such exercises are marked with a "star" icon. Clicking on this icon will open a pop-up with details about the completion of that exercise.

School teachers can configure the display of exercises in the statistics only for their own personal materials. If editing access is not available, configuring point calculation for the exercise is not possible (these are the school's materials, the materials catalog).

Administrators and staff have the ability to mark exercises with points for all materials except those in the school's catalog.

Statistics Comments

For each lesson, you can add a comment to the statistics (for instance, to explain the meaning of categories or the logic behind point allocation). To add a comment, in preview and edit mode of the lesson, go to the "Results" section and click the "Add a comment to statistics" button.

Please note that the comment is added to the lesson, and students will be able to view it in all classes where this lesson is added.

How Does a Student Earn Points?

A student earns points by completing exercises that are taken into account in the statistics. Points for "Correct Answers" and "By Mistakes" are automatically awarded as exercises are completed and auto-checked (except for cases where auto-check is not configured – points for those answers are given after teacher evaluation).

Points for exercises with manual point allocation are credited after teacher evaluation. The "Assign a score" button is located under each such exercise.

Viewing Statistics and Leaderboard

Viewing Statistics for a Specific Lesson

Teachers and students can view earned points at any time by accessing the "Results" tab in the virtual classroom. In group classes, the leaderboard of students (if enabled) will be displayed here. To see the statistics for a specific student in a group class, select their name in the upper left corner or click on their name in the leaderboard. Please note that students' email addresses will only be visible to you.

Viewing Overall Statistics

To view a student's or a group's overall statistics:

  1. Open the profile of the respective student or group.

2. Select the tab of the relevant class, and within it, click on the "Statistics" tab.

To view overall statistics for an online course:

  • 1. Open the profile of the relevant course.

  • 2. Navigate to the "Statistics" tab.

Please note that you can download the statistical data for selected classes or courses in table format by clicking the "Download" button.

"Student Statistics" Report

School administrators now have access to a new report. In the school settings, go to the "School" section, and then navigate to the "Reports" tab.

Information Available in the Report:

  • Statistics for all students across all classes, groups, and online courses.

  • Statistics for each class and course over all time.

Filtering results by period is currently not available.

🚀 Statistics on the Edvibe platform is a powerful tool for tracking students' academic performance. It enables teachers to analyze each student's work in detail, and empowers students to see their achievements, thereby motivating them towards further success.
