Introduction
A picture is worth a thousand words. We encourage you to include images and videos in Elemeno resources to enrich the content and make it easier to understand.
Use Cases
Videos are used in a variety of ways in Elemeno resources:
To demonstrate how a piece of equipment is assembled or used. Video can be helpful for some types of troubleshooting.
To demonstrate how a procedure is executed.
To provide a narrated walking tour of a specific area at a facility.
To deliver Skills Day/Skills Fair training demonstrations or lectures.
To demonstrate an EHR or other software system.
General Video Guidelines
Filming
Video captured on a mobile device is fine—no special equipment is needed.
Always film horizontally. Think landscape/widescreen.
Make sure that the “action” is in the frame.
Speak slowly (but keep it natural!) and pause between steps.
Use specific language when describing supplies and equipment. Viewers may not be able to see particular pieces well, so use the specific name instead of generic works like "this" and "that."
We can subtitle your video if you'd like, and clear speech helps us ensure the subtitles are accurate.
Please demonstrate/walk through the process or procedure in chronological order. If you need to submit things that are not chronological, please mention this in the notes you submit.
If you need to demonstrate small or intricate parts, take detailed shots. You can also include these as still images with your video submission.
There is no need to make multiple takes. Elemeno video producers will edit your rough initial cut. We always appreciate a heads-up if a particular portion needs to be removed.
Source Material Handoff
Please include the following information in a document that you submit along with the video file.
Information to include:
Timestamp information. It is beneficial when you provide us with information about where a video should be cut, if necessary.
Supplies. If you present supplies as part of the video, submit a list in the production request accompanying the video.
How-to steps. If this is a video demonstration, it is helpful to include written steps along with the video for users who want to scan the instructions.
Video Treatments
Short video clips
Short video content has a considerable impact because it can be consumed quickly. The most effective resources combine short videos, still images, and concise text.
For an example, go to the Elemeno Resource Network and search for Belmont Rapid Infuser.
What you should submit to us
Unedited video. Don't worry about making the videos small and consumable. We'll do the editing for you. Just film a continuous video and we'll do the heavy lifting.
A source document that includes the steps to perform the specified task.
Timestamp information that explains where we should cut the video.
Three-minute videos
When the situation is better addressed through a continuous narrative rather than just quick visuals or short clips, we create three-minute videos.
These videos should be short and actionable. As source materials, you can submit a longer “rough” video and we will edit out any dead time, bloopers etc.
Ensure you are demonstrating during a video and not just narrating. Written text with photo images may better serve the audience if you are explaining and not showing.
If it is not possible to fit all the demonstrated procedures in a 3-minute video, we'll likely split the video up and place the pieces in logical segments. For example, an equipment demonstration may be split into the following sections (or even in separate resources): Set Up, Initializing, Treatment, Ending Treatment, and Charting.
What you should submit to us
Unedited video.
Text that will support the video such as a short introduction including what the viewer will learn from the video.
Long-format videos
Long-format videos include lectures and lengthy demonstrations by experts. While most Elemeno content is designed to be quick and actionable, publishing longer videos on Elemeno is occasionally appropriate to share an important training session with your team without worrying about everyone being in the same place at the same time.
Please remember that we do not provide custom captioning for long-format videos. We can provide auto-generated captioning, and you will ultimately be responsible for reviewing the accuracy of captions.
